Just play a little around with it, that might give you a proper feeling for it.
Thanks for the help, I will work with this. Do you know of a location for a tutorial or Faq on the scheduler?

====quote====
I was wondering if there was a way to automatically backup all folders and settings. I have only found a way to manually perform a backup.

=============

You can do so in TB scheduler. I've never used it, but it's available as an action for new events.

However, not everybody is quite satisfied with the internal back-up. Lots of people prefer third party tools.

====quote====
Also, I notice that when deleting mail from a folder in The Bat, the corresponding folder in the Bat file on my PC does not get smaller.
=============

That's because when TB 'deletes' a message, it doesn't remove it from the message base, but marks it as deleted. The same happens when TB moves a message from one folder to another.

That's rather normal database behaviour. And a message base is simply a database with messages, so it isn't exceptional behaviour.

That's why TB has an option to compress the message base on exit (both on folder and account levels) It's also possible to compress folders manually.

====quote====
so auto backing up that file with backup software on my PC would not be an option. Also, Backing up a file while it is being used by the program would lead to corruption.
=============

You can kill TB with a commandline parameter, run it as:
C:\Program Files\The Bat!\thebat.exe /exit
This'll cause TB to exit, so you can run your external back-up program.
I was wondering if there was a way to automatically backup all folders and settings. I have only found a way to manually perform a backup.

Also, I notice that when deleting mail from a folder in The Bat, the corresponding folder in the Bat file on my PC does not get smaller. The old information seems to remain in there, so auto backing up that file with backup software on my PC would not be an option. Also, Backing up a file while it is being used by the program would lead to corruption.

What I really need is a way to auto schedule a manual backup within The Bat itself.

Thanks,
Phil
