Stuff disappears Losing data and folders in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Every folders has its own directory on the harddisk.
When the complete folder is missing, it's merely the pointer to the matching directory.
So first check whether the folders still exist on the harddisk. Common folders are directories in the mail directory. (As opposed to account folders, those are directories in the account directory. Which on its can turn can be found in themail directory.)
The location of the mail directory can be found via TB's menu:
Options -> Preferences -> System -> Mail directory

If the actual directory still exists, then you only need to create a name common folder with the same name.
The most common reasons that created folders can't be seen after a restart of TB are access rights, for example that the original config was created by a different windows user than the user that added the latter folders. Or that TB was killed in stead of closed normally.

Stuff disappears Losing data and folders in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
I've been trying to use The Bat for the past few days but I keep losing data.

I was, and still am, using Pegasus 4.4 but decided its lifespan was limited, so I decide to look for something else. The Bat was the only program that looked like it would deal with my large folder structure and database (156 folders, 84,000 messages, and growing).

The import went well although it took about 6 hours. The problem is that I have lost data on three separate occasions since I started using The Bat. I made sure to run the maintenance function to insure The Bat was happy with the data I imported. No problems reported so I started to work.

Without covering the first two incidents, the last data I lost had nothing to do with any imported data.

I produced a common folder for medical records and two sub-folders for each of the recipients. I then copied the records fr om each recipient for their prospective folders. I should also mention I created a filter to do this automatically in the future.

Everything went fine for a day or so, but when I went in today both sub-folders were gone along with their data. I figured I had done something stupid so I decided to rebuild the sub-folders. However, try as I might I was told that they already existed under another folder.

I looked through each and every folder that I had created and imported and these names wh ere nowhere to be found. Keep in mind these are no imported folders but folders I created in The Bat. I think you guys have a bug here.

Is there a way to manually parse the data with a hex editor of something to see if they are still there? I know I had to rebuild my Pegasus database about 10 years ago and had to edit quite a bit of stuff.

-- Ardfarkle
