Mark, Thanks for info on that viewer utility. It's a keeper. Let me browse some deleted emails that had be trashed prior to compacting. And also helped me locate some long discarded accounts that I had forgotten. And I like that it runs without needing to be installed. A real keeper. Thanks,

david
Thanks for detail and this method is quite OK. for all other members of this forum we just give step by step instructions to create archive/ or to use another copy of thebat! for different user :

Step 1. : click on start then sel ect run then type regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT , select the RIT and then export registry key of RIT and save the same on desktop. (for saftey)

Then create backup of your current bat for archive.. open your current THE BAT! and go to TOOLS>BACKUP and take .tbk backup on your desktop.

Step 2. Again click on start then select run and browse your program file folder and locate thebat! and select the thebat.exe file and click open, now your run command have thebat.exe file path, then give space and type /reg:TYPE HERE FOLDER NAME YOU WANT TO GIVE FOR YOUR ARCHIVE , so it must look like this"C:\Program Files\The Bat!\thebat.exe" /reg:archive2008
then click OK your second copy of thebat! is ready to install, install the same and restore the .tbk file fr om desktop (created in Step 1).create desktop short cut for the bat and right click and change the path as "C:\Program Files\The Bat!\thebat.exe" /reg:archive2008
and rename the shortcut like archive etc.

Once mirror of your bat is installed you can safely remove files created in step 1.

This way I can open two bat copies at a time and search them and even two different person can use thebat! with their own setup.

Enjoy.
you can use another theBat for old messages.

Normally theBat reads/saves some of its settings (incl. the location of the mail folder) fr om
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!

But if you start thebat.exe with the command line parameter like /reg:OLDMAIL (for which you may create a shortcut), then you can start a new independent instance which will look for settings in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\OLDMAIL

So under OLDMAIL modify the path stored in Working Directory value, and this instance of theBat will work with another mail folder, wh ere you can keep old stuff.

As all other settings are kept in the mail folder, both instances will not mess with each other in any way, changes in one will not affect the other.
Take a look at Mailbag Assistant from Fookes Software. Not free, but it is low priced.

<noindex>http://www.fookes.com/mailbag/overview.php</noindex>

Will read The Bat! files and allow for excellent searching. Can export to .eml files (if you so wish).

Light on resources (disk and memory).

Import can be done by many filters, sorting by domain, folder etc.
Support from Fookes has been excellent, updates are clean and easy to do.
My current email messages in (all accounts ) the bat is more then 20GB size dating back to year 2000 to till date. Now current version of The Bat is slight relief for me as far as working of my bat is concern.

But can anyone suggest that how can I take completely backup of emails till 31st Dec, 2008 (means particular date) and I also frequently require to search my old emails but once I backup then I cannot search them quickly and I donot know in which folder that particular email was.

Suggest me the way out I tried various thing to keep my bat size small and archive the messages but all process are lengthy, I tried following method :

1. I created my all folder structure in Microsoft outlook and then I saved per folder wise old messages as eml and then imported in outlook ? this way My bat become lighter and whenever i require to search old messages I open Microsoft outlook and search the old messages too ?

2. Another method I tried to create one more login in windows and in another login I install bat and copied my current bat from master login and deleted this years messages so my archive was ready with all old messages with search facility ?

But all this process are very lengthy particularly creating folder structure at Microsoft outlook, is there any method by which we can archive the old messages ? or transfer to outlook express with same folder structure ? Or the Ritlabs can make any .tbb viewer so we can archive the messages.tbb file and whenever required same can be opened in viewer so original bat remain ligher.

Please help?
