It happens when you're viewing messages with the rich text viewer (RTV). And it's intended behaviour.
Has nothing to do with text generated by macros, but has to do with text below your signature delimiter.

A signature delimiter: dash, dash, space on a line by itself, is used by a lot of mail and news clients to separate the signature from the message body. That way when you quote the message in a reply the signature is automatically deleted from the quoted message. Saves bandwidth and such.

As signatures are commonly the least interesting part of a message, the RTV's default setting are to make the signature less conspicuous. However, when this is bothering you, you can change that.
Options -> Preferences -> Viewer/Editor -> HTML/Windows Editor: Scroll down in the Editor layout, select the signature text and change its properties.
Hi,

when I forward an email that was recieved in plain text and change it to HTML some of the text is grayed out. By this I mean text that has been added by a macro. e.g.

%FromFName ))) mailto:%FromAddr

any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

Michael

P.S. this happens under other circumstances to but I didn't want to drown you in detail - yet
