Trash could have a broken index (TBN) or msgbase (TBB) file, so repair folder or deleting files of Trash can help.
I had the same issue. Virus protection on or off did not make a difference. Running Windows 7 64 bit. I finally deleted the trash (emptied I should say) and once the folder was empty everything started working just fine. I had this happen on multiple accounts with different size trash folders. Other accounts had no issues. Hope this helps.
I'm using Vista 64 bits too and I don't experience your problems, so I don't think that's the problem.
Indeed I am using IMAP

I am a single user so it is not access rights issue,

I removed Antispam Sniper plugin from The Bat! and it's working at the moment. But I guess that might have been a coincidence as I experienced "no-delete" situation several times before installing Antispam Snipper.

I clean/purge my mailboxes regularly so that isn't the case.

I believe Roelof might be right saying this is bound to third party software, as I use Kaspersky Internet Security plugin - I am not sure but maybe it blocks access to messages for some time (to scan them or whatever)?

That might be also the case of 64-bit version of Vista Business I am using. Although I never had problems with any 32-bit software this might be the unfortunate exclusion...
I've never experienced a delete buttoin that didn't perform in TB. But basically I can think of three reasons why deleting wouldn't work.
1) Access rights to the index files. Could happen when you're accessing the same message base from multiple user accounts in windows.
2) A corrupt message base. Especially the inbox is prone to corruption when you don't regularly purge and compress.
3) Other programs that interfere with TB's functioning. What you mention about antispamsniper suggests that this might be the case.

That messages stay present in the outbox may have somthing to do with either the server not mentioning that message has been received or interference by another program that keeps the correct server reply away from TB. (Virus scanners, spamfilters and firewalls can do that.)

You're mentioning that you accessed the outbox on the server via webmail. That suggests that you're using IMAP. Client side spam filters aren't the most efficient way for IMAP (just like all client side filtering) and it's not impossible that antispam sniper ects less then stellar in this case.
There are a lot of different IMAP implementations and TB doesn't handle some of them as well as it should and some other not well at all.

Non-working DELETE - long-living problem in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
Hello,

Does anyone know why suddenly the "delete" function stops working (both as a key and option from menus)?

The strange thing is that it often has its "favorite" folders that stopped responding for delete command - especially inbox, trash and outgoing messages.

I don't know whether it is the same problem - but also very common bug is that messages in Outbox got stuck - the problem is that in many times they were actually send but do not appear in Sent items folder. Cleaning / purging the mailbox doesn't help in this case.

I had this problem several times on different 4.x builds. Usually the only solution was to reinstall The Bat! from the scratch, together with removing any files and registry entries left.

Today I experienced that again - but this time it looks the fault lies in Antispam Snipper - I installed the trial pro version and after 1-2 hours the "delete" option stopped responding. Restarts - both The Bat! and the system didn't help. But - when I removed Antisnipper from The Bat!, the bug was gone! Moreover, the messages I tried to delete suddenly got moved into Trash but... in several copies.

The most unusual thing is related to Outbox - those messages didn't get deleted so I logged into webmail and deleted them manually. Surprisingly some of them are present in The Bat's mailbox but no on the server! How come? Howe to get rid of them (they are not parked)?

Thus, the question is doubled:
- how to make "Delete" working?
- how to stop messages from getting stuck in the Outbox?

BTW - does it mean that Antispam Snipper cannot be used in some cases? Since it causes such mess...

I'd appreciate your help on that since I browsed this and other forums and no clear answer on that issue was there...
