Hmmmm... Is there a way to download betas "officially"?

Of course, it is possible to find appropriate links over the web, but it should be also possible to get such files directly from RitLabs website I believe.

The more betatesters, the more results
Yes, the 4.2.12.4 is a beta too.
New versions are only public releases when they're mentioned at <noindex>http://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/download.php</noindex>
Thanks Roelof

You've set my heart at ease (again!)

Regarding the "The Bat! Professional Edition 4.2.12.4" that Battie mentions above... is that also a beta?

Should I stick to the "Check for update" menu item in TB if I want to avoid betas?

Generally, I try to have my software updated but I am not very fond of betas and usually wait for finals or official updates (that's what I thought I was d/loading yesterday).
You've downloaded abeta version of TB pro. I don't know where you ran across that URL, but it was intended for beta-testers.
There were several msi packages with minor fixes, all using the same version number for the msi, but not for TB itself.
Even though the version wasn't intended for general use, it was located at the Ritlabs site. Ingeneral it's best not to download versions that aren't mentioned at the main download page for TB.

It's quite possible that you will be asked to uninstall agan when you want to install the final 4.2.12 version.

Uninstalling TB will not delete your accounts and filters and such.
I am a registered user of TB Pro and am currently using version The Bat! 4.2.12. 2 Pro which I am very happy with as I no longer get crashes etc.

Today I came across a mention of "The Bat! 4.2.12.3 Pro" with a download link at <noindex>www.ritlabs.com/..</noindex>. ./thebat_pro_4-2-12.msi

The filename is the same as the previous version but the date is today's date so I downloaded it from ritlabs regarding it as a newer version - even though TB did not show a new version available when I checked (from the Help menu).

However, when I tried to install the new version I got a message that the installed version needs to be uninstalled from the Add/remove function in the Control Panel if I want to install the new version.

My questions are:

What is problem here? Why can't I simply upgrade the installed version?

I see no mention of my settings being retained if I install the new version and if I am to reconfigure everything from point zero then what is the point of upgrading?

This is all very weird and I wouldn't even think of trying to upgrade if the new version was not from the RitLabs site!

Obviously I am not going to risk an upgrade if I have am not certain that my previous settings will be saved but I am wondering what will happen with the NEXT new version. Will I be asked to uninstall my existing version again?
