The Bat hangs every so often

The Bat hangs every so often During a connection Thebat hangs, needing stopping via the Task Manage in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
The trouble is I check the email every 5 minutes and it only fails 3 or 4 times a day. When the connection is not there - if I switch off the cable modem for instance - Thebat gives up after a while and reports that it cannot connect. The problem here is different, since it does not come back at all - it freezes and Task Manager has to be used. When I was running Bayes IT it did often freeze, but now I just junk anything not covered by my filters and rules, and 95% of what gets junked is not worth having - which is about the success Bayes was having when it worked!
This looks either like problems with BayesIt (what you ruled out) or problems with the connection to the mail server.
Since your broadband connection is stable, what about virus scanners and firewalls. Might those interrupt your connection?
Several times a day Thebat hangs during a connection, and cannot be shut down without using the Task Manager. I am on 3.0.1.33, not using Bayes or other plug ins. When I check the emails at the ISP they have nothing in commin, and retsarting Thebat gets them in readily. This is on a cable broadband connection which is not suffering any interruptions.
