Fetch - could not connect with server - new wifi enabled Netbook Failure to log on in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
The problem lies with the network you are using to try to access your mailserver, not with The Bat! You need to check the network's security settings as it could be anything from the port you are using (you might be able to use a different one, check with your mailserver) to the address which you are trying to access.
"Local area network or manual connection" is selected.

As noted, I don't have to change it for it to work on the home wireless router network. And with that same setting, it works when tethered to my Blackberry effectively using the Blackberry as a modem.

Yup, just turned on the netbook, here at home, and instantly was able to check and retrieve mail using the wireless router.

But at work, I get that "fetch" error.

Thanks.
It should not matter for TB what kind of connection you're using.
What kind of connection have you configured in TB at:
Options -> Networdk and Administration -> Network
No one has any suggestions for getting the bat to work on a public wifi network?

I have used my Blackberry to tether on the netbook fr om the location wh ere they wifi is located without making any changes. So TheBat works on the netbook both at home on my private network and with a bluetooth tether from my Blackberry to the netbook. What is it about the PUBLIC wifi network that prevents TheBat from connecting? Again, I presume there is some setting in the TheBat which can open it up and allow it to work.

I should add that I have upgraded the Win7 starter to Win7 Home Premium but that has not changed anything.

I would appreciate even some good guesses!

Fetch - could not connect with server - new wifi enabled Netbook Failure to log on in forum The Bat! - Configuring the E-mail Client.
The issue is I am trying to collect my email using TheBat on a new netbook using the public wifi service where I work.

I have gotten TheBat properly configured and when at home, I can use the wireless router connection to get my email. I have also successfully used a tethering solution fr om my Blackberry to the netbook and retrieved the email.

Wh ere I work there is a public wifi network. I can cruise the web without any problems. But when I try to use Thebat using that public wifi network I get a "fetch - could not connect with the server" type of message (I'm not there now so don't know the exact error message but it is close to what I wrote). The wifi network does suggest that it may not be secure but I accept its limitations and it allows, as I say, me to browse the web.

So is there some setting somewhere in TheBat that I have to tweak to enable a log on and retrieval of email? I presume there is some setting or firewall or something that I need to change to allow TheBat to get on.

At the moment, since it is a new netbook, I have not installed its free trial of Nortons security, or another other anti-virus, etc security. There is probably the normal Win 7 (starter) firewall protection.

Any help appreciated.
