Ouch, that should have happenened automatically, though it's possible that after it has been compacted it has been filled with purged messages from other folders.
However, if the the folder is empty, you can without any problem delete the messages.* files from the matching directory. Preferrably done while TB is closed or has focus on another folder.

after i run the maintenance program to clean up and compress all folders, my trash folder messages.ttb file size is still over 200MB even though in The Bat! it lists no messages.

how can i get these messages.ttb files to reduce in size?
