Well, the saga continues (version 5.0.18 - release NOT beta, installed FRESH after uninstalling the prior version, Windows 7):  

Sporadically (not everytime) when I open an email, it opens normally then abruptly closes BY ITSELF and the entire email header disappears from the Inbox.  When I click on another mailbox (say, Sent) and then back to Inbox, the email reappears - WTF????  I have this entire process captured on video file using Camtasia - it's a big file (25MB) so I've posted it on Hotfile in case anyone's interested in viewing:

I've also put it as a support ticket, lets see what we hear.

I am using 5.0.18.1 and have had NO access violations and almost no slowdowns - and when it does slow down or appear to "hang" it is on a message with a gazillion graphics links in it. Something to be fixed at some point but NOT a show stopper (and I am a heavy graphics user)

Feedback:

So far 5.0.14.2 is better in that it spit out an "Access Violation at address xxxxx in module thebat.exe.......... " just ONCE.  We'll see. Have not updated to 5.0.16 not sure if it'll spell disaster or not

Downloaded 5.0.14.2 (beta).  Its basically a thebat.exe file only which I plonked onto the desktop and ran it for the heck of it.  Over the last few hours so far has NOT bungled up.  I'm not holding my breath however but maybe ??? light at the end of the tunnel.

Is Search broken in 5.0.14???

Main window, I type something in the Search field that should display results, but it shows nothing, just a blank space. Sometimes it does show results, but if I switch folders, the results disappear.

I'm this close to move back to version 4 :(

Was having something similarly weird with the 5.12 version which I subtly described in an above post as below:
" Email headers disappear and reappear - I'm not joking. Randomly and completely unpredictably, when you click on an email header to open (say, in the Inbox) the email opens, displays, then AUTOMATICALLY the next email in line (can't be sure whether the one immediately above or below) opens up and the one you opened closes. Then, when you go to Inbox, that email's header has also VANISHED. I then click on some other mailbox (lets say Outbox) and then back to Inbox and voila! - that header is back. NEW in Version 5. WTF ??????? "

So I take it that this iteration of TB is still not up to the mark then is it?  For now, working with Version 4.2.44.2 without the previously described grief (but also concerns about the longevity of this software).  Would love to be convinced that it is time to try an upgrade again.

Suggest you perform a fresh install of your copy of The Bat! - the Mail Ticker issue was fixed . . . . . . . a few (beta) builds ago - much before the 5.0.12.14 that you're running.

01.) It works for me provided the 'Display MailTicker ™' is set to 'Automatically' - it stops working if set to 'Always' or 'Hide.'

02.) Have been able to test it only on 'Windows Se7en' - not on other platforms.

Generally, I don't use the Mail Ticker - just checked it out and it's working for me on 5.0.12.9.
