Data Security

Authentication

The usage of the secure authentication protocol (CRAM-MD5) excludes the transfer of passwords in plain text over the Internet, thus preventing its interception by third parties. Additionally, the majority of other authentication mechanisms are supported.

Anti-Virus

The server offers protection against malware via the anti-virus plugins. Based on the results of the incoming mail scanning the respective actions can be executed: connection release (anti-virus quarantine), disabling of message retrieval, moving the message to a certain folder. To repel the virus attacks the server offers an additional temporary black list, which defines the limit of viruses to come through from a given address within a certain period of time.

Flexible configuration storage

Thanks to the dispersed configuration data storage the mail server will not come to a halt in case of partial data corruption. In most cases damaged sections will be skipped. Therefore, if one user’s data is corrupted it will not impact the other users.

Event logging

The logging of the significant events in the server’s operation is useful in tracking of the external attacks. For instance, if a user failed to log in for 1000 times, then someone might be trying to fit the password and it would be reasonable to change it.

Rules

Rules combined with black and white lists will help prevent connections to the server from unwanted addresses. For instance, the server will accept connections only from the addresses of the local network, thus excluding any chance of external attacks.

Productivity Improvement

Configuration

The mail server supports an unlimited number of domains and users within domains.

Mailing lists

Mailing lists are used to quickly spread messages to a big number of recipients. It is possible to use recipients’ addresses from external files.

User groups

The mail server is able to create user groups and assign folder access permissions. User groups allow creating closed communities with the internal exchange of messages. This way unauthorized messages will not penetrate into the mailing list.

User folders

The configurator allows managing folders of every user (adding, deleting, renaming) and assigning folder access permissions to certain user groups.

Rules

Flexible sets of rules allow defining the server’s policy regarding:

  • the admission of connections. It is possible to define a range of IP-addresses and host names to allow or block connections via the specified protocols.
  • the sender’s address. It is possible to define a range of mailing addresses which will be allowed or blocked via the SMTP protocol.
  • the recipient’s address. It is possible to define a range of mailing addresses which will be allowed or blocked via the SMTP protocol.

It should be pointed out that the results of the preceding tests against the rules might influence the subsequent operation in the given connection. For instance, a rule for filtering out spam might reject the recipient’s address instead of the sender’s address, thus resulting in a positive side effect: the spam mail exploder might believe the respective email address does not exist and therefore remove it from its list of recipients.

Black and white lists

Black and white lists allow creating sets of IP-addresses, host names and email addresses, which are subjected to special processing rules. These sets are a less functional alternative to rules offering the ability to create sets of the “allowed” and “prohibited” addresses.

Activity monitor and logging

The monitor offers real time tracking of the server workload, of the changes in the server’s activity log and of the message queue. Important events in the functioning of the server can be saved in the activity logs. Moreover, the activity logs can be stored as databases, which significantly simplifies the analysis of the events. The analysis can also be carried out using third-party applications.

Support of the common protocols

The server supports the following protocols for sending and receiving email: SMTP, POP3, IMAP4rev1.

Flexible configuration storage

The access to the configuration data (groups, domains, users, folders, messages, rules, black and white lists) is carried out via the driver, thus making it possible to store data in the needed location and adjust the server to particular needs. For instance, the configuration can be kept in the user’s database, which permits the usage of other specific applications to access the respective data. Moreover, the configuration can be allocated to several databases providing even more flexibility in adjusting the server to the needs of the end user.

Secure authentication

The usage of the secure authentication protocol (CRAM-MD5) excludes the transfer of passwords in plain text over the Internet, thus preventing its interception by third parties. Additionally, the majority of other authentication mechanisms are supported.

Interface language

The current version of the server is available in English and Russian.
