"Login failed" problem with IMAP outlook.office365.com, For a few days i got a lot of "login failed" errors when trying to connect my outlook account through imap

Hi,

for a few days i got a lot of "login failed" errors when i try to connect my outlook mail account through imap.
Out of 10 i can login maybe 2 times. No other error message, just a simple "login failed".
I can login in my browser with no problem.

All settings are set accordingly the outlook page:
Server name: outlook.office365.com
Port: 993
Encryption method: TLS
POP is disabled, two-step verification is turned off.

I have turned off the "Allow up to X connections" in the Bat.

At my outlook account on the recent activities page i can only see the succesful synchronizations, but not the failed ones.

The same goes to sending a mail.

Any ideas to solve this problem?

Thx, Peter

Microsoft announced that it is disabling password logins, see this thread: https://www.ritlabs.com/en/auth-forums/forum4/topic15939/. It is a miracle you were able to log in without two-step authorization up to now. The way forward is to enable two-step authorization and log in through OAUTH.

And if for any reason that does not work, I believe you could still try an app password.

Account -> Properties -> Transport

You will see two Authentication... buttons, one for Send mail, one for Receive mail. Click the one by Receive mail and select OAUTH. A browser window should pop up asking you to confirm. Maybe the Authenticator app on your phone will engage if you have it set up. If all goes well, that should be that. Hopefully, Microsoft will not make you go around in circles.

Also, make sure that for the Authentication... button by Send mail the option Same user/password as for Mail retrieval is selected.

Thank You very much, it works now!

Can I ask a question? And if you are in college. I want to introduce this website to you all. It is a writing service provider website https://lastminutewriting.com/assignment that writes for you. I have used them for my assignments, and every time I used them, I ranked top in the class, and my writing is also getting better. If you also need help, you can get it from them.

Yes, you don't need to ask for permission. Just make sure the question fits the topic.
