The Bat does not fly anymore

The Bat does not fly anymore in the toolbar when there are unread messages. Does anyone have a solution?

Have you checked the relevant settings in Options | Preferences | General?

Yes, I did not change anything last 10 years, "Animated Tray icon" is ticked. The problem accurs when a read message is set to unread again and when the Bat is closed and started again it does not fly anymore.

Well, that sounds like it is easy to reproduce. If you report it to Support, with some luck they'll be able to fix it for future versions.

Yup, I reproduced it. It seems that the (not so) new icon was not designed for flight...

I made a ticket for support.

My solution:

Windows Taskbar Settings

Notification Area

Select which icons appear on the TaskBar.

Select “The Bat” (The Bat was not available until I did “Repair” under Add Remove Programs)

I tried this but that did not fix it. It occeurs when a message is unread en the program gets closed and when restarting the program you see the unread message but not the bat flying.

It actually works, but only for the System Tray icon. To see it, go to Preferences -> General and enable "Always show icon in the System Tray". They use the old-style yellower icon.

Now that I look at this Preferences window carefully, TB does what is written there by the checkboxes:
- "Display badge on the Taskbar icon"
- "Animate Tray icon"

Nowhere does it say "Animate Taskbar icon". I remember a time when Taskbar icons were animated, my hunch is that Windows made it difficult / impossible at one point so TB switched to animating the Tray icon only.
