Ritlabs, SRL and Dekart bring e-mail client/server suite with biometric authentication

Chisinau, Republic of Moldova -- 23 September 2003 - Ritlabs, SRL and Dekart today announce SecureBat! and BatPost version 2, a secure e-mail client/server suite for Windows that utilizes multi-factor authentication.

This new version allows the utilization of biometric authentication and supports 23 different brands of USB tokens and smart cards, top brands in card readers and the majority of biometric verifications devices. The full list is available at http://www.dekart.com/products/supported_devices/

SecureBat! is already very well-protected against viruses and worms that spread via email: it neither uses the Windows address book nor the Windows-dependent HTML viewer, which have been the targets of many recent attacks. SecureBat! version 2 features a new plug-in interface for anti-virus programs to check data for viruses only during specific events like receiving mail or saving attachments. The use of plug-ins saves you from the need to permanently run antiviral monitors that may significantly degrade the performance of the computer. The new version also includes a new Anti-spam plug-in interface to keep you protected from unsolicited commercial e-mail.

SecureBat! safeguards the locally-stored email message base, address books and configuration files by means of on-the-fly encryption which is transparent to the user.

To initiate a POP3, SMTP or IMAP session, the SecureBat! client and the BatPost server first perform a mutual challenge-response authentication using a shared secret (account password), and then the client sends the user's biometric data to the server to compare. There is an option to use only biometric data without a shared secret. In both cases, the user should originally leave the sample biometric data on the server.

SecureBat! and BatPost version 2 will be available on November 3, 2003 through www.ritlabs.com. The vendor will first exhibit the suite on October 20-24, 2003 at the SYSTEMS international trade fair in Munchen, Germany (www.systems.de), hall B2, stand 12.
