Apparently the default Hotkeys include Ctrl-B etc. in the Message Editor, and I was highlighting the messages in the message summary pane, and that clashes.https://www.ritlabs.com/en/support/tips-and-tricks/3831/
Although you would expect a clash only if the cursor was in the editor pane.

So I will switch to a vacant hot key.
