Message List, Message List

I use a layout with full-height account tree on the left and what should be a horizontal split on the right with message list on top and message preview on the bottom.

However, somehow the message list now consumes 100% of the right, leaving no message preview.

The bottom of the message list frame should contain a "drag" line, where the cursor changes to a double line to be dragged upward, shrinking the size of the message list, allowing the message preview to show. There is no such line on my screen.

Any thoughts? Is there a configuration file somewhere that contains the view parameters in effect that can be edited?

Thanks in advance.

Windows 7, The Bat! version 5.2.

Switch to a different split mode then switch back - that should reset it. I have had that happen to me.

Thanks, Rick, but that's the very first thing I did. I went through all of them to no avail.

Frankly, The Bat! is unusable in this state, and I can't find anything that even closely resembles a configuration file.

Try this and I hope you do not have a lot of toolbars and shorcuts designated as this will reset you to the default
CLOSE THE BAT
Go to your Bat data directory - in XP it is C:\Documents and Settings\YOURLOGIN\Application Data\The Bat!

Find the file "tbuser.DEF" and rename it
Reopen the Bat and you should be back to the default settings - if it is still messed up you can tiptoe back and use your old tbuser.DEF file and we will try something else

Thanks, Rick. I appreciate your efforts. However:

Results: Had to reboot before a new tbuser.DEF was created.
Old tbuser.DEF: 1.15KB
New tbuser.DEF: 436 bytes

No change to The Bat! panels. Still the same old problem.

Hmm usually it is only nessesary to restart the bat. You can go back to the old TBUSER and get any of those settings back. The bat should be closed of course - especially if you are on XP - check that it is gone with the task manager.

Perhaps it IS only the grab bar - here is where mine is

Perhaps one of the masters can add to this?

Win7 tends to "cache" filenames, so it remembers the old after a rename until reboot. Not always, only when you don't want it to. Did check task manager; was gone.

Yup on where your grab bar is; mine was ALWAYS like that until this morning when whoops-look-at-the-message-list-is-full-screen. I can't remember any strange event/action that led to it. And, I have tried moving the cursor VERY SLOWLY over the bottom of the message list panel; it never changes shape.

That this isn't easily recoverable might be a bug/design flaw?

One more thing to try.
Change your split mode to "Vertical" You should now be able to see the hidden data
Move it up a bit with the drag handle then go and change the split mode back

I just did it on my system and the new position held. If it works for you then your handle should sho (I hope)

Nope. Never get the drag handle. Never get any message preview.

Did you enable: view -> message auto view?
