Make message folders orthogonal to email accounts, Separate message folder structure from accounts

Now The Bat! has completed importing messages from Outlook. But in the main window, the imported message folders all appear inside/under the one email account I have created thus far.

The problem is that I use MANY email accounts, and the folder structure is only marginally tied to those accounts. How can I set up or rearrange the message folders, to make them independent of any email account?

Thanks!

If you right click any folder, you will see how to move it to another level. It works correctly, but it takes a bit to get used to it. Look at the keyboard shortcuts and it will go a bit faster  :D

ALT drag and drop also works, but it is for me, a bit harder to control - but try it!  8)

Thanks yet again Rick.

My issue is that the folders seem to be related to individual email accounts. Each email account has its own Inbox, Outbox, etc. This is quite foreign to me. I do not comprehend why the file structure is in any way related to particular accounts.

I'll think about it more. :)

I thought the same thing and set up individual common folders. It would be MUCH BETTER if you set the folders up under the accounts and then if you need them, set up VIRTUAL folders to view accross accounts. I have one VF that looks in all the inboxes and 2 others that filter specific color groups across all folders and display them sorted by sender name (in makes sense it the context I need) The possibilites are almost endless.

The thing you will find with the Bat is that it is powerful and you can make it do almost anything. But that of course makes for a fairly steep learning curve. Just keep asking in here and someone can usually help  :)

Thanks again Rick. I manage/work with nearly 90 email accounts, I suspect that what you suggest is a bit impractical in my particular circumstances. I realize that, for most people, this sounds excessive. But (most of) these accounts are necessary ... Each (or each group of just a few) represents some different organization, where I conduct activity on behalf of each organization in its own name, or a research activity, or the like. So I need to "speak" with a given voice, signified by a given account, but the subject matter is often intertwined.

As a result, I have created an elaborate folder setup and a correspondingly elaborate set of filters/rules that deposit all incoming mail in functionally useful places (folders); with few exceptions these have nothing to do with what email account is involved. It is unlikely that I would ever use account-specific folders for much at all, and I certainly have no use for dozens of active inboxes; all my email, which does not go to some specific folder, goes to an alternate Inbox folder that I created.

I will explore the 2 items you mentioned, common folders and virtual folders, to learn what each is and what distinguishes them functionally from one another. I appreciate these suggestions very much.

I DO hope that the common and/or virtual folders can be made to appear at the TOP of the folder list, above all the email accounts!!! :)

And I really get your learning curve comment, I can see that this is so. But that's the case for any high-quality, feature rich software. :)

I've played a bit with common, virtual, and common virtual folders. It's a nice idea. But as far as I can determine, all the common/virtual folders have to appear under ALL the accounts. Is there a way to reconfigure this, to turn the whole thing upside down so that the common/virtual folders appear first? I tried sorting in various ways, but this did not change.

Thanks!

Hold the SHIFT CONTROL keys and use the arrows to move your virtual folder to the top level. Then you can go into the folder properties and sel ect the folders you would like it to watch. (notice advanced filtering for later - you can filter by almost anything later)
If you are watching inboxes (for instance) you can watch them all and if you reply, it will use the account settings of the inbox where that particular message resides. (if you DELETE it fr om here, it is gone - at least in the sense of marked deleted until you compress)

decide how you want to read the messages in virtual folder and you can set the colums, sorting and whatever you wish. Sounds like a pain but once it is set up, it will save you a LOT of time
