No support from Ritlabs, No support from Ritlabs

Hi,

Does Ritlabs offer any sort of support anymore? I've been using The Bat for about two years. I've had a problem for the last year and have tried repeatedly to contact them by e-mail and by creating a trouble ticket on their website. I never get any response. I've tried contacting every e-mail address listed on the site, from technical support to sales.

I haven't upgraded to version 3 as this is the worst support I've ever received for any software program I've purchased.

Regards
Michael Evans

won't speak about support, it seems indeed many questions go unanswered.

but maybe version 3 actually solves your problem?

you could try to install the tryal version for a test...

good luck

I tried version 3 and it didn't solve the problem. Going back to version 2 was also a hassle as restoring a backup doesn't restore all account settings.

Has anyone received any support at all recently?

Michael Evans

I have never seen any ritlabs moderators on the forum :(

That's because there aren't any, the forum is intended as user discussion interface.

I don't think so. Support was never good but since the introduction of Version 3 it has become completely non-existent. Ritlabs policy appears to be:

1) Send users who ask for support an automated mail telling them that a problem ticket has been created.

2) Completely ignore the user from then on.

Hi Tim,

I finally received a response from them syaing the know about this item and there's already a problem ticket for it.

When I looked at the problem ticket it was reported 3 years ago.

In case anyone's interested the problem occurs for me when checking mail while the internet connection is down. It's doesn't time out and the Abort/delete Tasks button won't abort checking. You have to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to close the program. This obviously doesn't happen to all users though.

Anybody got a recommendation for a new e-mail client? And more importently, is there an easy way to import messages from The Bat into a new client?

Regards
Michael

I wouldn't know a better client, but TB is able to export eveything to either *.eml or unix messagebase and every decent mail client should be able to read one or both of them.

The problem is the folder structure. With lots of messages in different folders it would be a lot of work to reclassify them all.

I don't really want to change clients. However lack of support, along with the fact that since I've been using The Bat my message base has been corrupted three times make me nervous.

Mike

When you've a substantial folder structure you should not get a corrupted message base. The most common reason for a corrupted message base is keeping all of your messages in the inbox.
When you're saving most of your messages in other folders the only thing that needs to be done to prevent any problems is purge and compress all of your folders regularly (preferrably on exit)
That's what I'm doing and in four years of TB usage I've never had any corrupted message base. (And I've got about 100,000 messages on disk)
