Bat won't check for new mail, TheBat won't download new mail or check for new mail except when shut down and restarted

I used TheBat from 1998 through 2013.  Never had a problem retrieving mail.  Hit the retrieve mail icon and zap there it is.  Now I can't get it to check for mail.  I have it set to check every one minute but it doesn't do that.  I can't find the control setting to correct this.  It's been two years since I used TheBat so I've forgotten a lot.  Anyone have help?

I'm probably misunderstanding you, but the 'Periodical Checking' option is under Options in the Properties of the account.

p.s. not all providers accept short mail checking intervals like that.

Yes, I also have the same problem the last couple of days. And I also use TheBat for probably 10 years now.
Trying to solve it, I not only lost much precious time and nerves but I also installed and uninstalled a ton of other shit on my computer.

So, TheBat (both version 5.x and now 7.0) hangs on "Received message from xyz" then won't close with Alt-f4, with Alt-X or anyway.

Then I have to kill the process.
When the program does agree to shut down when I click Message-Exit, the process does not disappear and I cannot restart it.

I tried uinstalling avast to no avail.

This is my last attempt at staying with TheBat, I am afraid I will have no other choice soon but to find another solution

So, I think the problem is with Avast and TheBat.
Ken, do you also use Avast Antivirus?
