Resetting a message pane to get rid of 'from' threads

I normally have the right hand message pane showing messages in their chronological received order regardless of the sender.

I've somehow managed to configure it so that now messages are sorted into threads by sender so there's not a simple list of messages but lists of messages in sub threads by sender.

What do I need to do to return to a simple messages pane sorted in chronological order without regrard to sender please?
