Fonts for Preview and Composing

Hi folks,

I'm new to The Bat! and would like clarification on something please.

I've been using the programme for about two weeks now and found the learning curve a steep one (so many options) but I'm pretty conversant with everything now. However there is one thing I can't fathom and I'm not sure if it's possible or not.

I'd like to use different font types for both the message preview and composing screens but it seems to me only one font type is possible (I'm talking about the main font and not fonts for headers etc.)

I prefer to use a fixed font for previewing messages as I often get stuff containing lots of figures in columns and if the font isn't fixed the columns don't line up and I have to figure out what goes where.

For composing (generally) I prefer the Verdana font simply because it is (in my view) very easy on the eyes and I can work with it comfortably for long periods.

Now as far as I can make out with the programme 'one font fits all' and under section Viewer/Editor/Profile Layout I have to choose a font for Regular Text which covers both the preview and composing windows.

Is there any way to get around this and have a two font choice as I would like it please?

If nothing is available is it something I could make a request for in a future release from Ritlabs?

I like the programme enough to go ahead and make a purchase but I'd like it even more if I could change fonts to my preferences :)

Would appreciate any help/comments.

I don't think it's possible to use two different fonts (assuming you don't want to write HTML-email)..

Your best best might be to try and find a font that's as easy on your eyes as Verdana is, but non-proportional. Fonts like that are usually geared to programmers, who tend to use monospaced fonts and who make long hours on the computer. Personally I just use Courier New :)

Yes, the learning curve is steep. I've been using for over a year and there is so much I don't know. Yet you've likely already discovered that TB! can do almost anything with a little work.  Here's a way to resolve your issue:

1. In Options>Preferences>ProfileLayout, click NEW at upper left.  Sel ect your character set of choice, e.g., UTF-8, and assign a NAME to profile.. click OK.
2. The profile layout now appears. Select a monospace font for regular text, such as courier new and click ok.

You now have two profiles.  Now, fr om main menu, click VIEW>Viewer Profile and put a check mark by the new profile.

This may not be 'perfect', but allows you to view incoming messages in courier new, yet your compose window will still default to your preferred Verdana Font. Incoming mail must, of course, be in text mode for the courier new to be used. If you receive HTML mail, just click the text tab. Good luck,

Ok folks,

David's solution does work, but the only thing is I can't get the new profile to accept the character set of my choice. It defaults to us-ascii for some reason and I have to keep changing it in the compose window to utf-8 which is my preference for the profile.

I might be doing something wrong so I'll go over it again, but it could be a bug.

Otherwise TB! now does exactly what I want it to.

Daniel, thank you to for your input, but David has 'trumped you' as we say over here :)

BTW David, when I saw your name it ringed a bell with me, we have in fact met recently elsewhere. If I say this: Money for Becky! might it mean something to you? ;)

The character set that applies in compose window is for sending mail. I didn't address that. In a separate post Daniel explained that: set the new template in application properties to the desired character set.  Yes, I wrote the help file for the Becky! email client. Same person.  All the best,

p.s. if you want the profile I defined for use in viewing incoming mail to have a specific character set, that's done in the Options>Preference>View/editorprofiles.

Thank you for that, all is working fine now and Ritlabs are just about to get my money.

I swayed away from Becky purely because of The Bats! built in viewer which is far superior to using Internet Explorer (especially for business emails which a lot of my stuff is.)

So I've been rolling my sleeves up and pulling my hair out during the past two weeks getting used to programmes myriad of settings and I thought I'd gotten an understanding of it all, but I guess I missed the kitchen sink :D

Anyway I'm happy with the set-up I'm using and I'll dabble more with the complexities as I go along.

Ritlabs have a nice little community here so I'll be taking a look every day to see what's going on (I might even be able to help someone :!: )
