Problem with TheBatv3.5, Start - Quits

Hi,

Anyone know a solution for the following problem:
When I try to start TheBat 3.5 it picks up 1 e-mail and it quits immediately.
The when I move my mouse over the tray icon it disappears.
Restarting TheBat 3.5 causes the same errors.
Restarting the PC causes the same errors.

Any solution?

Thanks,
Steef

I've been fighting this one for a few days and for me it comes down to Bayesit plugin which I had enabled. If I rename the Bayesit directory to something else it all magically works again.

However, there must be something else at play because this behaviour is not exhibited on my other machine I tested it on.

HTH :D

It magically works!
I renamed BayesIT and the program keeps running.
Thanks alot Wooky!

When I click on a mailto: hyperlink on a web page, IE opens up about 50 browser windows and then locks up the machine.  The Bat! is not my default email client (Outlook is for work reasons).  IE shows that Outlook is the default email app.  Has anyone else had this happen?

It would be more helpful if new topics were created as new topics and not pinned to the nearest handy unrelated discussion topic.

This is an old one I haven't seen asked for a long time.

Here's a snippet from a 2001 support query on this very topic:

First thing: Go to this setting, change it from TB! to another client. OK it. Again go there and change it back to TB!. now press OK and leave the settings. For good measure close IE. Now open IE and try a
mailto link.

This procedure can remedy problems between IE and non-MS mail clients.

Thanks Administrator.  My apologies - the topic "Problem with the Bat" seemed an appropriate area for my issue.  I have done searches on this site for "mailto:", "default browser", etc., and did not find this solution in the results.  It did work, so thank you very much.  I changed the default client to The Bat!, closed IE, re-opened it, changed the default client to Outlook, closed IE, re-opened it, and it works normally now.

Actually, that did not permanently fix the problem.  After a restart, the same problem re-surfaced.

Go to Outlook settings and uncheck the "default mail
application" option. Can't remeber where it is, since
I use TB since v1.47 Halloween Edition ;)))
But you will be able to find where the option is.
Since you said you use OE for work, I'm imagining that
it always sets itself as 'default' everytime you start
it.

Hope it helps.

We no longer provide BayesIt in default installation of The Bat!. The user will be able to download BayesIt separately.

back on topic again :)

I saw a similar behaviuor some times after TheBat!/BayesIt crashed or was obviously affected by a Windows crash - it seems to me that BayesIt files were left in a peculiar sate by the crash and lead to a Bat crash afterwards while filtering an incoming mail

I could always fix it doing the following steps:
  • remove ByesIt plug-in in the options dialog (no file renaming or deletion necessary)
  • stop TheBat! (may still crash)
  • restart TheBat!
  • install BayesIt again (options dialog)
  • BEFORE fetching any mail (!) CLOSE TheBat! again (this seems to do the trick: BayesIT is fixing its files)
  • start TheBat! and go on happily with active filtering
