What about a new version, Update now or later

Hello guys,

I'm thinking about an update to the newest version of The Bat! But I'm a little bit unsure if I should wait for a version 10 or ugrade to the most recent 9.2.5.

What do you suggest?

It depends on what you want. If your interest is in helping to further the ongoing development and enhancement of TB!, then now is an excellent time. Ver 9 has had many enhancements since its release a year ago and works very well. If you have an old version, there are likely a number of new features. If history repeats, there may be a version 10 before end of 2021. In mid 2019, the upgrade fee to ver 8 included the unreleased ver 9. If that repeats, there may be an opportunity to get ver 9 in midyear that include ver 10. And maybe ver 10 is further out. There's a bit of risk in all decisions that are based on cost. But updating now to have the best version ever is its own reward. Choices, choices.

I would suggest staying with the version that you have if it works. I am not altruistic enough* to part with my money to "helping to further the ongoing development". A company has to earn my money.
*The ONE exception to this is my backup, partitioning and boot manager programs. There are literally YEARS between major releases with frequent enhancements (releases). Then, the upgrade fee is 50% of a full licence, not the 75% for The Bat!.

v9 had a very rocky start with some features being removed and then slowly re-added.
Add to that *all* of the bugs that I reported during my time with v8 were not fixed during that release and have not appeared in the changelogs for v9. I would not call v9 the "best version ever" by any means. It is just the latest.

Why do you do this?

9..3.1 had all kinds of different fonts and colors. IT seemed as if the entire layout changed and i could not get it back anywhere near what i had. IT was hard on my eyes and my wife had the same concerns. I tried changing all kinds of settings to get it to look like the earlier versions and failed. I believe that the themes screwed it up since not one of them were any better - indeed most were worse.  Also 9.3.1 eliminated the split that earlier versions had. It also added an extra reply window to the open email - which took up space and made no sense since we just click reply and use that - simple and easy, We also had problems with the top menus' i forget what did not show up .. All in all 9.3.1 was truly a disaster in this household.

In the forums, I learned how to totally delete the program and the registry entries then make a new mail folder - install the older version and restore. That helped a lot. I just wish i had an even earlier version that 9.2.5 but alas i do not .

The Bat was the gold standard for us for the last 15 plus years but now it has changed to something that hurts the eyes. I have no problem with functionality.  If you could truly make an Theme that eliminates all the colors and put the fonts back to what they were in version 8 then We would be really happy. For now that is what i am aiming at.  I just have to keep trying with the fonts and sizes until i get the right combination and then leave it alone.

I don't understand you! What's wrong with classic or quartz theme?
Quartz theme don't hurt eyes and looks better than classic.

Show me please your 9.2.5 window of TB!

P.S. I do use choco-dark theme and will never return to this white themes, for example. Dark force is my decision. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/10/80/13/10801361a1eb7b84d82c437f50497361.jpg

John, prior versions are available at https://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/archive-versions.php  Although I don't understand your issue, I do agree that TB! seems to be in perpetual beta mode, with each release a patch to prior release. We are the true beta testers. The product is improving, but you are correct in stating that the earlier focus on stability and quality began slipping in the move to version 9. The new management is moving forward and I applaud that, but the road is steep. My understanding is that there is underlying technology that is now being updated, but that's over my head. I remain supportive that TB! will emerge a better product. But you may wish to revert to a prior version if 9.3 is troubling you.

These are two shots of  my current setup of the Bat. Sorry it took so long,

I am now wondering if i should try the Christmas version?  Is there a way to save the setup i now have so it would be easier to reinstall or reset if needed?

George- thank you for the help . MY wife and I are very comfortable with the appearance of the old version. The multiple font and color changes in the newer updates are real hard on our old eyes. Your setup is exactly what we want to avoid.  If i could have one wish, it would be for the programmers to put in a theme button to revert all to the old style for us. Then everyone else can try the new stuff and we get exactly what we need,.

We like the Bat for a variety of reasons including having our various email accounts all in one stable and secure program, thus we continue to use it.

Over the many years we have been using The Bat, every time there was a concern, it got resolved and so shall this be fixed.

Just do few clicks - change your theme to classic.
