Too much space, There is far too much white space

I just upgraded to V9 from V7. It seems that there is far more space between lines than there used to be (in my thread pane I used to get 12 lines and now I get 10 for the same size of window and font). Given the no-border About dialog that pops  up on start, I suspect this is a Windows 10 thing :(

Is there any way to reduce the amount of white space to the previous level? I tried different themes and they all change colours but don't affect layout at all.

Very close! The tickbox to set was "Use denser display of items for folder and message lists".
