Large files MESSAGES.IBx & MESSAGES.BKx

I seem to have a collection of these in my data storage. numbered 0 to 6 as in MESSAGES.BK0 etc.


I also have MESSAGES.BCK and MESSAGES.IBK

All the files have timestamps from various dates in 2019.

Given the total size is some 37GB can they be deleted or are they serving some useful purpose?

Better way to compress database is to delete deleted messages and compress folders.

R.Click on folder - purge and compact (CTRL+C). Do this magic thing with every folder that you have.

Remember - after this magic thing you won't have ability to see deleted messages in a folder.

Most likely they're just old backup files (of a message base), but not like The Bat makes them. Did you use any third party backup software at the time?

Have you lost any important messages since 2019? If not, maybe you should rename these files (to MESSAGES-BK0.TMP etc, for instance) and see if everything still works as expected. If nothing bad happens in the next few weeks, you'll have greater confidence that these files can be deleted.

When you do this from Folder > Maintenance Center, you can process all folders at once.

Backup4all, but that backed up to a separate physical drive

May be this is some old backup that you are not remember. Just move it to some external drive where you store backups.

I can only find:

MESSAGES.TBB
MESSAGES.TBN

The extension BCK, BK0 etc do not look like The Bat extensions.
