Breaking out of a quote...

The Bat is such a fussy program!

Yes it has a lot going for it but....

So I am replying to an e-mail.
Going paragraph by paragraph.
I will see something I would like to quote and then I hit <ENTER>

Bingo the paragraph is split open and now I can enter my text.

Next paragraph. I see something I'd like to quote.
I hit <ENTER> and  ....... nothing!

The paragraph does NOT split open?

Why?
How can I break it open?
I used to type <Shift> <Enter> but was told <Enter> is all I need.
Well neither one works!

More info.
I had saved the message as Draft and then re-opened the Draft.

Can this have any effect on quoting?

Have you tried both HTML editors, PureHTML and RichText? Do they behave the same?

Are you referring to:

Options/Message Format:
- HTML/Plain text
- HTML only

?

I had HTML only selected.
When I switched to HTML/Plain text I lost all HTML formatting which defeats the purpose of HTML (it was lost).

I think I will just bite the bullet and do my replies in a text editor outside The Bat and then copy the reply into
The Bat.   :(

No, format is always HTML here. I was referring to the HTML editor that can be selected. In Options -> Viewer/Editor -> HTML Editor -> Default HTML Editor.

Or on-the-fly from the status bar of the message editor (Plain Text / HTML RichText / HTML PureHTML).

OK I looked for Options -> Viewer/Editor -> HTML Editor -> Default HTML Editor and couldn't find it in my The Bat.
I also don't see where the on-the-fly options are to get Plain Text/HTML Rich text/PureHTML.

Maybe we have different versions?
Mine is v.8.8.9.
