TLS handshake failure with new version 11.4

Hello. I just updated from v.11.3 to v.11.4 (windows 10). Now I can't get my email on any account.

* I get this error message in my gmail account:

27/12/2024, 12:49:00: FETCH - Connecting to POP3 server pop.gmail.com on port 995
27/12/2024, 12:49:00: FETCH - Initiating TLS handshake
!27/12/2024, 12:49:00: FETCH - TLS handshake failure. An existing connection has been forced to be terminated by the remote host

* And the same error in my hotmail/outlook account.

27/12/2024, 12:48:22: FETCH - Connecting to POP3 server outlook.office365.com on port 995
27/12/2024, 12:48:22: FETCH - Initiating TLS handshake
!27/12/2024, 12:48:22: FETCH - TLS handshake failure. An existing connection has been forced to be terminated by the remote host

My webmail works. So I asume this is an error in version 11.4...... ¿is it possible to go back yo v.11.3? I don't see this version in the archived version of the The Bat.

Thank you.

GMail works normally for me in 11.4, albeit through IMAP, not POP3. Here's to hoping POP3 is not broken for the two biggest services...

What type of authentication are you using, Regular or OAUTH?

When I take the download link for the new v11.4 and replace the 4 with a 3, the resulting link still seems to work:

https://www.ritlabs.com/download/the_bat/thebat_64_11-3.msi

Thank you!! I went back to 11.3, thanks to your link.... It works again!!

But I got this error message during the installation:

"CEF binaries missing!
The missing files are:
C:\Program Files\The Bat!\cef\dxcompiler.dll
C:\Program Files\The Bat!\cef\dxil.dll"

But The Bat works.......  Do you know what could this error be? As the message says, those 2 files are missing. Are they important?

I'm using OAUTH..... I just fixed the problem going back to 11.3 thanks to Daniel van Rooijen's link.

The Bat works, but I still got this installation error:

C:\Program Files\The Bat!\cef\dxcompiler.dll
C:\Program Files\The Bat!\cef\dxil.dll"

I uninstalled the bat 11.3, I removed directories, install it again and it worked without errors.

Yes, generally it is not possible to revert to an older version of TB just by installing over a newer one. Uninstalling the new one needs to be done first. Gland you found a solution, thanks for the feedback.

Another one could have been to force browser-based authentication again in v11.4. In any case, v11.4 doesn't seem to bring much improvement over v11.3. CalDAV support is partial at best.

It is working for me, Thank you.

Hello,
I made an update from 10.5.2.1 to 11.4.2.1 and got the message by the end of installation.

"CEF binaries missing!
The missing files are:
C:\Program Files\The Bat!\cef\dxcompiler.dll
C:\Program Files\The Bat!\cef\dxil.dll"

The program have the new look, but after closing and opening the bat, I see the old version 10.4.2.1

I have a few things tested, like repair  or delete and reinstall (with the thebat_64_11-4-2-1.msi).
But nothing works, i got every time the missing files message and after closing and opening the bat, I see the old version.

Is there a download location to get the right version of this two files?

Thank you for helping me.

The link above to 11.3 in not working.
I can not find an older version from the bat like 11.3 or 11.2 or 11.1.
My hope is that an older is working.
Are download links available?

Apparently, the installer didn't overwrite the previous version, but rather installed the new version in a separate folder. This has been a regular source of headaches for years... One version is probably in C:\Program Files ("install for all users"), the other somewhere in C:\Users\YourUserName ("install for this user only").

My advice: uninstall all versions, and manually delete their installation folders. Make sure you get them all, search for "TheBat64.exe" if needed. Also take note where your mail folder is, leave it intact, and back it up before going forward with any of this. And only then install The Bat!. Point it towards your mail folder if needed (probably not). Any old shortcuts and pins you created - delete them and create again after installation.

Since v11.4.1 TB is using a major new version of CEF which is known to cause problems. Many of them were fixed in v11.4.2.1 (it's working well for me), but some could still remain. So, in case you need to use an older version, the German TB forum documents all the links to official installers: https://www.batboard.net/

If v11.4.2.1 doesn't work for you, I recommend v11.4 or v11.3. NOT v11.4.1.
