Indox files disappeared- Help, Can they be recovered?

All the emails stored in the root of my inbox have suddenly disappeared - this may have been because of a crash on my computer last night although it's crashed many times before without this problem occuring.

I think the emails are stored in a file called messages.tbb which I notice was updated when I logged on this morning but as the inbox was empty so is this file.

Any help to recobver the lost emails would be much appreciated.

Every folder in TB has its matching messages.tbb and .tbi files, the actual messages can be found in the messages.tbb file with an index in the .tbi
When the messages.tbb file matching your inbox is empty then your messages cannot be recovered, unless you've made a backup.

It is possible that TB while tryig to repair your .tbb file created a messages.bin file, in that case it probably is possible to recover (some of) your messages.

You're mentioning a crash. A crash while TB writing to your inbox might make Windows unable to access the file properly. In that case Windows might have restored (parts of) your messages.tbb in *.chk files in your root directory (that was where previous versions of Windows stored them, haven't seen them with XP). Check for those, maybe they contain some messages.

Thanks for the response. Tried all the things you suggest  without success.

I have just noticed that my entire address book has disappeared as well.  :(
