The Bat! hangs trying to open the message, thebat hangs when displaying a spam message

I was looking into a problem a friend of mine had with TheBat where it was hanging every time he was opening his inbox. It appeared that The Bat! hangs every time it tries to display a spam message he received that day. You can see a copy of that spam message at

It is very easy to reproduce this problem, just import this message into any folder.

Is there any way to fix this problem? I understand that this message may be invalid and malformed, but this is not a reason to hang.

Okay, so I imported the message into my message base, but TB didn't hang. The messages is lacking all headers apart from the content-type stuff (unless you deleted those for privacy reasons, in that case, contact me per private mail). So it's clearly malformed, but I agree with you that that isn't a reason for TB to get stuck.
What version is your friend using? Try upgrading to the latest version. Whenever (s)he gets messages that cause TB to choke, there's always the mail dispatcher (Account->Dispatch mail on server->All messages) and delete the bad message from the server without downloading it into TB.

Thanks for the quick response.

This is strange, as I forwarded this to other people who use The Bat, and it crashed their The Bat as well. One of the versions which crashes is 3.0.2.10.

Did you try to view/open this message?

The Bat only hangs displaying the contents of this message (i.e. this problem does not happen if message auto view is disabled). There are no problems downloading this message from the server.

I copied the original message with all the headers (renaming the names of relevant servers) to http://tmp.digiways.com/thebat/original_message.msg . I just tried to reproduce the problem with the smallest possible message, thus the first one.

In that case I can that the bug seems to be fixed, as it doesn't choke my TB. (Yes, I've got message autoview enabled.)

On trying the same actions with 3.0.2.10 I get a hung TB too. I'm using a very recent beta, but AFAIK there have been no fixes on this area since the last public release, so I suggest to upgrade to 3.62.14

BTW 3.0.2.10 got stuck only when I viewed the message with HTML view enabled, normally I view messages plain text only and that didn't cause any problems with 3.0.2.10
