BATxxxx.tmp files not deleted

When importing from Netscape 6 there are a bunch of .tmp files created on my desktop.  They are not deleted after the import.  Properties says they are 0 length. If I manually delete them the imported mail disappears from the pop folder created for them.

How to import mail, and not have temp files residual after the import?

Why would deleting the zero length tmp files also delete the imported mail?

Can I have the tmp files go in a place other than my desktop?

Further diagnosis by myself shows over 40000 batxxxx.tmp files on my computer.  Only 1mb free space on 11gb disk.

I am deleting all the bat*.tmp files and will try import in smaller chunks and see what happens.

Maybe my experience when importing from Eudora will shed some light on what's happening: http://www.ritlabs.com/en/forum/read.php?FID=4&TID=174&MID=9493#message9493read.php?FID=4&TID=174&MID=9493message9493

I imported about 500 messages.  No errors and I could read all of them.

However, there were an equivalent number of batxx.tmp files in the temp folder.

I manually deleted the .tmp files and I can still access the imported mail with bat.

Is this a "feature" that it is necessary to manually delete .tmp files after importing mail from Netscape folders?

It's clearly a bug that TB leaves .tmp files behind after importing, but you're doing well to delete them. TB has been known to slow down dramatically when you've gotlots of .tmp files.

Why hasn´t this bug been fixed by now after more than 1 year???? I'm trying to import from Eudora, but the desktop is being filled with tmp files, and the import runs incredibly slow.

Some possibilities:
1) It isn't that easy to fix
2) Considering the small amount of converts from Eudora to TB Ritlabs didn't assign much priority to the bug fixing
3) Ritlabs doesn't know about it as nobody bothered to write an entry in bugtrack on this bug. Writing a message here doesn't count as this is a user to user support forum.
4) In spite of my earlier message it isn't a real bug in TB, but it's caused because your virus scanner (or something else) is causing interference with the import process.

I don't what's the real cause, but I'd put my money on options three or four.
