Problems sending emails via BT Internet accont, Unable to send emails from The Bat Pro using BT Internet account

Hi,

Please can you assist me, I am trying to set up The Bat as my email program to send and receive emails using my BT Internet account.

No real problems receiving emails, however when sending emails I get the following in the smtp log:

20/02/2006, 18:08:48: SEND  - sending mail messages - 1 messages in queue
20/02/2006, 18:08:48: SEND  - connected to SMTP server
20/02/2006, 18:08:48: SEND  - WARNING: there were no compatible authentication mechanisms detected
20/02/2006, 18:08:48: SEND  - sending message to humphrks@btinternet.com
!20/02/2006, 18:08:48: SEND  - Server reports error. The response is: authentication required - Your email could not be sent. To fix this you must make a simple change to your email (known as SMTP authentication). For advice visit www.btyahoo.com/smtp or call 0800 328 9968
!20/02/2006, 18:08:48: FETCH - Connection to host broken (last commands sent were: "MAIL FROM:<kirk.humphries@btinternet.com>", "RSET")
!20/02/2006, 18:08:48: FETCH - Connection to host broken (last commands sent were: "RSET", "RSET")
20/02/2006, 18:08:48: SEND  - connection finished - 0 messages sent
20/02/2006, 18:08:48: SEND  - Some messages were not sent - check the log for details

I have configured the SMTP Authentication so that 'perform authentication (RFC 2554)' so that same user/password as for mail retrival |& require secure authentication, but so far to no avail.  I have also tried the 'use specific settings'.

Thanks for your assistance, must say the program is very good.

Regards

Kirk

I can only suggest to look at the info at www.btyahoo.com/smtp (got that link from your log) to see what they tell about that authentication.

In their unending wisdom the PTB of BT/Yahoo decided that you had to login in order to be able to view this help file, so I cannot access it.

Thanks for your reply.  It would appear that I have fixed it although I thought I had tried this combination i.e. connection regular, authentication perform smtp authentication, same user/password as for mail retrival & use 'POP before SMTP' authentication.

Thanks again for your assistance.
