mark as read

Hello everyone,

I have the option of marking new messages as read after 0 seconds of reading. The problem is, when new mail arrives into my Inbox, The Bat v3 automatically selects one (newest?) message by default. So, one of my new messages is always automatically marked as read without me actually reading it (or even doing anything)! I did not have this problem in The Bat v2, which would leave all incoming mail unselected. Please help.

Thank you.

I don't think there is any help on this one. Maybe set the time to 1 second. Or keep your inbox empty, moving messages to storage folders once processed, or to pending folders while awaiting processing.

Keeping all of your email in the inbox is a bad habit that should be discouraged. The inbox is a high traffic folder with many messages being created and deleted for every mail check. Incoming mail filter actions are performed on messages actually in that folder. That makes the inbox a very volatile and dangerous place to store anything valuable.

I personally read all new messages through the mail ticker virtual folder, which contains only new messages. Perhaps you could consider that as an option.

It's up to me to decide how I want to read my messages. I find that with the upgrade to v3 I have to go out of my way to do a lot of really trivial things that I've gotten used to doing in v2.

This has nothing to do with how empty or full my Inbox is. My Inbox is empty. And when I get a new email message, it goes into the Inbox, and automatically gets marked as read without me doing anything. Yeah, I could set up filters to distribute all incoming mail to separate folders so nothing ever gets stored in the Inbox. I just don't think that I should *have to*, that's all. I'm actually used to the Inbox being a place for all my new mail to reside, which I could then distribute myself as I find appropriate. As strange as that may sound...

Of course it's totally up to you how and where to store your mail. It's just that storing your mail in a high traffic folder like the inbox makes it easy to get into problems like this: http://www.ritlabs.com/en/forum/read.php?FID=4&TID=288&MID=1000#message1000read.php?FID=4&TID=288&MID=1000#message1000 and that's not v3 related, that could happen in any TB version. It can happen with every program doing a lot write actions to a big file.
