Upgrading from ver 1.45 to a new one

How do I upgrade version 1.45 to a new one without losing  any e-mails i have stored? In my office i have on 3 computers this version installed, and a year ago when i tried to install a new one, i lost my e-mails. Luckily, i backed up my files, and was able to bring back all messages, but in same version. Please help me solve this problem.

You're using v1.45 and that's using the same message base files as the current version. You should be able to install the new version on top of the version you're using.
To be sure you could install v1.62 first on top of v1.45, that ought to go without problems, afterwards install v2.12 and then v3.
After each update you should try to access your messages and don't forget to create a proper backup.
v1.62 and v2.12 still can be downloaded from Ritlabs.
