Crashing Bat and Word 2000

Crashing Bat and Word 2000, sending Word doc through Bat latest version crashes both

I am using Office 2000 and when I send a Word document or Excel spreadsheet as an attachment send email goes, but then both TB and Word (or Excel) crash and I need to use task manager to end them. Any comments? I am using XP with all current updates on both XP and Office.

Not 100% but most of the time I can usually count on it happening. Sometimes I can right click on the bar and close it but many times the Task manager is needed. I note that the locking up is usually associated with the connection center being open and trying to run
