Vista mailto registration

I just installed TheBat 3.95.1 on Vista RTM & imported all my messages from Xp. Everything seems to be working fine except for one problem - I can't change my mailto: preference from Windows Mail to the TheBat. When I try to change thru File Types, the only program option I get is Windows Mail with no way to select another program & the MAPI handler option under Preferences/Applications doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Yes, you are right that The Bat! does not yet support automatic File Types and mailto associations under Windows Vista; but Ritlabs is going to fix this issue in the new version of The Bat!

Any update on when this will be fixed? 3.95.06 still does not work.

Yeah I am waiting for an update for Vista.

Unfortunately recent 3.98 release (02/27/07) did not fix the problem.  You can find the solution here http://research.implexsoft.com/VistaTheBat/en/

It will probably be a couple of weeks before the next release, so in the mean time you can use the solution described in the article.

The solution did not work for me.  I am running The Bat! 3.98.1 -- is it incompatible with the posted solution?

Regards

Yes, 3.98.1 is what I have.  I just ommited the last digit in version number.

I updated the instructions with the following text:

If it does not show up in the list:
All reg files assume that The Bat! is installed on system drive in default for The Bat! folder (Program Files\The Bat!\)

If your copy of The Bat! is installed on a drive/partition different from system drive (non-default path) you need to fix the paths to thebat.exe and tbmapi.dll in registry:
Search for all strings in registry containing "%ProgramFiles%\The Bat!" and replace with correct path (i.e. E:\ProgramsFromOldComputer\Bat)
Reopen "Set your default programs" applet.

If you install 3.98.4 from http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/thebat_pro_3-98-4.msi it will correctly support Vista associations.
