3.98.4 Mailto still NOT working with Vista Ultimate

I've installed 3.98.4 on a Vista Ultimate PC but clicking on a mailto link in IE6 does not work. Everything is configured correctly but when I click on a mailto link I get 40+ new web pages opening up!!!! with the mailto address in the URL address bar.

What's going on?
In the Vista program defaults it says that The Bat is the registered program for email etc...!!

Anyone have any ideas????

Steve

Update...

More information.

Installed is The Bat Pro 3.98.4 on a Windows Vista Ultimate PC. What exactly happens is that when I click on a Mailto link in IE7 after a pause of about 10 seconds I get a dialogue box that says
"Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed"

I assure you it is and I have reinstalled The Bat and tried to use the repair option but still no joy. After I click the OK on the error dialogue I then get 100's of IE7 pages opening one after the other each with the mailto address in the URL bar!!!

The mailto associations are all pointing to The Bat as well as all other mail associations.. and the main Bat program works a treat.

What can I do to get this to work.. Please someone HEELLPP.

Steve

I feel your frustration. I work in IT covering 1700+ computers running mostly XP and a few Win98.

I purchased Vista and after 3 weeks moved back to XP due to most of my programs not running properly. Hardware makers are giving limited support to Vista, and the buzz is that Vista will be another flop like Windows ME.

I know this does not cure your issue, but I wanted to point out that your gonna run across this same issue with many programs out there since Vista is so 'New'.

try to uninstall the Vista mail app, can't recall the name - if I correctly remember it's not Outlook Express anymore but something else.
This can be done from Control Panel - Add/Remove programs - Add/Remove Windows components (on XP). On Vista Add/Remove programs has a different name I think.

I agree the problem is likely in Vista as so many things do not work as expected on it. It will likely become a reliable OS after the first service pack, and that's the next time I'm going to try it.

I have Vista Ultimate, and mailto works well.
It just takes 2 seconds until the editor pops up

BTW I must say I disabled UAC and from this point everything worked well on my PC.

Thanks for all your responses.

I now realise that Vista isn't quite ready for all the wonderful software out there! It's a shame that The Bat hasn't quite got it sorted yet as Dell along with many other manufacturers are rolling out Vista like it's the be all and end all and The Bat is a great program but people might be put off if things don't work as they expect.

I still can't get The Bat 3.98.4 to work on my Vista Ultimate PC and I have done everything humanly possible. The first thing I did after installing Vista was to disable the stupid UAC.

Maybe someone from Ritlabs can respond?

OK, i don't know if someone still has problem with mailto: on vista ultimate, I know I had... even with TB! 3.99.1.

I went through the registry searching for 'thebat' values, and changed every value that had: thebat.exe /open "%1" to: thebat.exe "%1" and guess what - it's working ;)

BTW. @RITLABS:

According to the program help executing thebat.exe /mailto should open a new editor window, instead it creates empty mail i outbox...  :|

The following registry file should work.

Code
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\DDEexec]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\The Bat! mailto\shell\open\DDEexec]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\The Bat! message file\shell\open\ddeexec]
