View Modes not working

Folder view modes are not working for me. when i switch mode nothing happens, tried deleting and recreating them without any results

Changing modes either by right clicking on the folder and on the column header give the same result by the way.

I have also noticed that even if nothing changes, the selected view mode changes the view mode on all the other folders as well (for example if i select threaded mode on just 1 folder, all the other folders change to threaded view, even if graphically everything is identical to the generic view)

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:

I have noticed that after changing the view mode, if i change tab on the folder, then i click back to the "all" tab, the settings are applied. if i change folder, then click back to the initial folder, the settings are lost again.

I'd like to know if it's just my installation that is botched or it is a bug of TheBat!. This is so annoying this feature is pretty much useless.

I'm using version 3.98.4.

Regards

What you're isn't changing the view mode, but changing the look of the folder. And those changes are thrown away when you leave the folder. that's no bug, that's intended.
In order to change the view mode you need to change the settings of the used view mode:
Folder -> Folder View Mode -> Manage View modes -> <Select view mode> -> Edit

Here is the place you also decide how TB should act when you make changes in the folder view, see the bottom of that pop-up

Thanks for the answer but unfortunately it doesn't work, i edit the view mode following your steps, hit ok and nothing happens.

I understand, but nothing happens when i do that, the only apparent way to apply the changed view is by changing tab then turning back. Is it supposed to work like that?

When i follow your steps nothing happens even when i switch tabs.

Is your installation working properly? if so a reinstall could help?

You're talking about tabs, I guess they're message list tabs and I don't use those. So that might explain some differences in shown behaviour. You do know that you can set different view modes to different tabs, do you?
Maybe that's something you can try.

And yes, my installation is working properly. ;-)

Oh well if the view modes are working fine it means it's just my install, i will see if a reinstall works.

Anyway i don't use tabs, i made a search to see if somebody else had the same problem and THIS thread came up (notice the last post)

So far the only way to get a view mode to work is this:

1-Change view mode via folder view mode > select or any other method (nothing happens)

2-Change tab from within the folder (by default there are "all" "unread" and "flagged" (i never use them) )

3-Click back to the "all" tab (at this point the setting is applied, it doesn't "stick" and yes i tried the methods you posted).

notes:
All the steps werde done _without_ leaving the folder

I never uses/customized tabs in my install

I just want some folders to show the messages threaded from the beggining while other folders not :(

As you don't use the tabs why don't you disable them, that's what I did. (So that we're using the same settings.)
You disable them via: View -> Message list tabs

Now we create a view mode that shows the messages threaded.
Options -> Preferences -> View modes -> New
Give the view mode an appropriate name.
Thread by references (that's my favourite), but if you're trying to thread stuff that's partially sent by non threading clients you can thread by 'Refreferences + Subject'
Check the columns you want to use
Now press 'OK' and press 'OK' again
Now you've got to set the view mode to the folder.
Select the folder, go for its properties and pick General:
Here you'll find something called 'Column settings' here you can pick your newly created view mode, select that.
Now your view mode is associated with your folder.

You can assign the same view mode to multiple folders.

Roelof Otten!

I followed every step to the word and the settings don't apply (i.e. nothing happens)

With the tabs disabled now there's no possible way to change the view mode in my install, neither temporary nor permanently.. just tried a reinstall and i still have that issue :(

UPDATE!

After looking around i found the source of my problem:
The selected view mode under View > Global View Mode was "Generic View Mode", i just changed it to "No view mode" and all the folder views changed to the view i wanted :D

I didn't knew that "Global View mode" overrided all the other folder settings, as i matter of fact i didn't noticed that option until now.

Regards!

Thank you Marlby23!

I've had exactly the same problem and I'm very happy you found a solution and posted it here  :)

EDIT: Oups, sorry, didn't notice the thread is so old...
