Unacceptably long delay for TheBat to compress folder

Since upgrading my copy of TheBat (home), the time it takes to compress my inbox folder when closing the program has stretched to many, many minutes. It used to take about a minute and odd seconds under 3.98. I just had to cancel some sort of new autobackup feature because it had apparently hung after sitting unchanged for 15 minutes. Is there a fix for this or, failing that, is there a way to gracefully go back to version 3.98?

TheBat: 3.99.3
Windows XP 5.1
Build number: 2600 Service Pack 2

How many messages have you got in your inbox?

It varies, but at the moment it's a trifle north of 3k.

The point is that the previous version of TheBat had no trouble with this load, and I'm curious as to what changed to make it such a problem.

As I don't experience that myself I don't think it has something to do with a code change. I suspect some corruption of your Inbox.
Copy all messages from your Inbox to another folder
Close TB
Locate the directory matching your Inbox
Delete the files messages.tbb and messages.tbi
Start TB
Try to compress your Inbox again (should be blazingly fast as it's empty)
Copy your messages back to your Inbox an d try again.

You can also try right clicking the inbox / properties / Additional and make sure it is NOT compressing on exit

Rick,

Yor suggestion is counterproductive. Nine out of ten times this kind of problems is caused by compressing the Inbox not often enough.

Then I should have added "compress it with the maintenance center" rather than at exit.

I suppose it depends on how you use it. RIght now The Bat is up and I am reading email before work and will shut it down shortly. I don't need it to compress every time I close the prog. However this afternoon I will empty out my sent and trash then compress everything. That happens AT LEAST once a day if I am here using the program at all

I wan't having the issue that this person was having but it was taking a long time to shut down - the inbox has less than 100 messages
