SSL Support, Is it not available?

My ISP has just changed the way they handle email. Now their POP3 and SMTP use SSL encryption. However, I did not see this option available in The Bat! 3.99.3.

Is this option just difficult to find, or does The Bat! just not support this at all. If that is the case my ISP has just terminated my ability to use The Bat! :!:

No - it will still work. Go to Account preferences, mail transport and change they type from "regular" to TLS for POP and SMTP. If that doesn't work try the other secure setting. Make sure they haven't changed ports or anythng like that

Yeah, they did change ports. SMTP is now port 465 and POP is now 995. Does that ruin my chances that it will still work?

Not at all - that sounds like the Google mail setup. Just change the ports and you should be good to go

Thanks for your help Rick. Everything is working perfectly now. :D

Same problem here.  It's a att yahoo account.

I can get email fine, but not send any.  It keeps Saying" authentication required - for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/sbc/dsl/mail/pop/pop-11.ht

Both the Pop3 and SMTP are supposed to use SSL.  I got the POP3 working by choosing "Secure to dedicated port (TLS)" This makes it work.

But the SMTP which seems more staitforward is not working.  I have no idea what settings to change or keep.  No combinations seems to work.

After trying more combinations I found that the SMTP server needs the following configuration - notice that it is rather counter intuitive!

In the Account Properties - Transport...

In the Authenitcation Tab:

Perform SMTP Authenication is Checked
Same User user/password as for Mail Retrieval dotted

Nothing else checked (Including requires secure connection even though that's what is mentioned on the ATT Yahoo DSL Help site)

Then

Connection says "Secure to dedicated port'

Port is 465

It will work now.

Even after following all of the above instructions I cannot for the life of me get the bat! (version 4.0.14) to connect to my server. I currently use Barca with the att/sbc yahoo settings with no problem, but would like to migrate to the bat if possible.

I have tried every combination I can think of to connect. Here are the current settings:

To Send
SMTP: smtp.att.yahoo.com
Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
Port 465
Under Authentication tab: Perform SMTP Authentication checked
I have tried both "Same user/password for Mail retrieval, and using Specific settings with my full email address and password.
I have tried checking and unchecking "require secure authentication".

To Receive
Pop: pop.att.yahoo.com
User: full email address
Pass: my password
Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
Port 995

Is the bat client just not compatible for us with att/sbc yahoo? I'm really frustrated with this and hope someone can help.

pavlovsbella,

I have att/sbc yahoo!, and I'm having no problems at all. Could your firewall be the problem?

Thank you Dr. T - I have Norton 360 and needed to run a "fix" tool on it, and then disabled the firewall. Once I rebooted, the settings worked like a charm in TB.

Thanks for nudging me in the right direction!

Rick, I am using an old version of the Bat! v1.53d. There is absolutely no option for SSL or TLS in my account settings. I am with WildBlue broadband and they recently switched to gmail. Now, my Bat won't work.

You may have to upgrade
