How to undo last email deletion?, without locating the deleted email in the trash

Hello,

Sometimes I hit delete too quickly when reviewing my spam folder. Is there a way to "undo" the last deletion? I tried Alt-Backspace (the only thing I found in the manual, searching on "undo") but this is perhaps only for the editor. It does not undo the deletion of an email. Of course, I can go into the Trash folder and locate the email there but it can be time consuming to find when there's a lot of trash....

I read a posting which says using the Delete key on Deleted email undoes the deletion. First, this is not what I'm looking for since I would have to find the deleted email to do this. Second, it doesn't seem to work that way in my version (3.99.3). It seems to remove from trash and send to the great bit bucket in the sky. Perhaps I misunderstood?

Thanks, in advance, if anyone can answer this.

Highlight the folder containing the deleted mail
Right click it and choose "Browse deleted messages
when it opens choose VIEW / SHOW MESSAGE LIST and peruse the top and/or bottom of the list (depending on how it is sorted

Thanks Rick. I appreciate the reply. This is an interesting approach but not very different from what I've been doing, which is to look through the trash for the deleted email. If the spam bin and the trash are sorted the same way this works reasonably well as long as I empty the trash pretty frequently.

On the other hand, the "Browse deleted messages" thing is very handy because it appears to be able to undelete any one of the 10,000 emails I have deleted since the dawn of time (or at least the dawn of using The Bat!) even though I have long since emptied the trash for those messages. I didn't realize that TB archived forever like that. Cool. Thanks for pointing that out.

So, it's a small thing, but I would love to have an undo button that would simply undo the last deletion. Someone please let me know if such a thing exists or if this is a good place to make feature requests (if not, where should I do that?).

Thanks again, Rick, for that great tip!

If you compress a folder, all of its deleted messages will go away completely. If you set the options to compress once a day, for all folders, using the scheduler, then you'll only have one day's worth of deleted messages to browse through. Note that the first time you do this it may take an hour or two to do the job (if you really do have 10,000 deleted messages), but after that it should be pretty quick.

Incidentally the "Browse deleted messages" thing only works on the original folder, not on the Trash folder. This isn't exactly obvious, at least not to me. And for the browsing, use the Navigation menu after pulling up the first deleted message, and tell it to go to the next or previous Unread -- even though you may have read it already. At least this is what I had to do, since I filter all incoming messages into common folders which means they get deleted from the inbox before I read them...

Hope this helps!

Thanks Jim. Valuable information.

Yeah, I really do have over 10,000 deleted messages. Probably should do that compression. Thanks for letting me know about that. TB has lots of great features but I definitely haven't groked them all yet.

I really appreciate your sharing that information.

That "VIEW / SHOW MESSAGE LIST" also works if you are not viewing deleted messages - instead you can stay in that window and go through the folder.

You can also highlight and compress one folder at a time but your best bet is to use the FOLDER / MAINTENANCE CENTRE just before dinner and let it run for as long as it takes. I run it sometimes several times a day
