Messages lost at crash during The Bat shutdown, While The Bat was shutting down, the PC crashed - messages lost

My PC crashed exactly at the time The Bat (3.99.24) was shutting down.
After reboot and restarting the Bat, my Inbox messages are all lost.
I seem to have left files which may contain the messages, but I found no way to restore them:
in the appropriate directory I found and saved:
messages.bck
messages.ibk
part0001.bin

Does anybody know how I can get my messages back from those files?

Create a new folder in TB and copy the messages.bck to the directory matching that folder and rename the file to message.tbb (with TB shut down)
Afterwards start TB and see whether that helped.

Tried that.
Unfortunately, this did not work. However, it created a new (large) part0001.bin file, slightly smaller than the .BCK file. Apparently, it did not "restore" messages from it

What if you rename the .bck or .bin to messages.tbb and select from TB's menu:
Tools -> Import messages -> From TB message base v2

I tried it with both files and it didn't work. TB reported it could import 0 messages.

In my desperation, I tried something completely different:
I'm running VISTA (yes, I know :-( ), and Vista supports "shadow files" (i.e. old versions of files)
I used Windows Explorer to restore Messages.tbb and tbi to the newest shadow file version Vista had stored.
This only lost me the messages of the last 12 hours or so - which is much better than losing all.
Complements to MS, one real advantage over WXP.

Ideally, I'd still like to be able to get the messages out of the .bck and part* files - if possible.

Unfortunately, TB backup is not the solution - or do you  backup every x hours? My final solution would have been to go back to the TB backup from 2 days ago.

Has anyone found a way yet to get messages from a BCK file back into TheBat in a usable form? I'm trying to get Dad's inbox restored from a BCK file but so far it won't work, it won't recognize the messages in the file and display them.
