upgrading bat, v2.00.6 to 3.99.25

Hi,

I'm wondering about upgrading from version 2.00.6 - does anyone have any opinions on the current version 3.99.25?

I haven't visited the forum for ages, but it seems like version 4 has been 'just around the corner' for quite some time.

v2 runs okay for me, the only gripe I have with it is that when some updates are applied, it changes it's behaviour and I have to go into preferences | antivirus and delete the avast plugin because with that listed, the avast macro to insert messages to incoming and outgoing messages stops working.

e.g.
"avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean.
Virus database xxxx" etc

This gets added when the plugin is not listed, but stops working when the avast bav is shown.

Sort of thing that leaves you wondering if the scanner is working or not!

I installed v3.80.06 on another machine, but it still has the problem with the antivirus plugin listing preventing the avast macro from inserting messages.

To be honest, other than a new ugly splash screen and a customisable interface, I'm wondering what changes under the hood are going to make it worth upgrading?

Maybe I should just wait until v4 comes out and has received it's first patch (so it works)  :D

I'm using an xp machine and that is not likely to change for a while - so vista stuff means nothing for me.

Any thoughts appreciated...

Thanks.

I just recently upgraded from 2.12. For day to day operations, there have been no significant changes. I do now use the scheduler for backups, but I think that has always been available.

For ME, the only real difference has been in the GUI. I like the way the newer Bat! appears.

Thanks.

I also prefer the more customisable GUI in v3, but the old one still looks okay. Guess I've just got used to it over time. :)

Not had any trouble with stability on 2.00.6 but only ever keep about 10,000 mails in there.

Perhaps the main thing that would push me to upgrade would be increased security (and maybe having a better help system to learn some of the clever things that look possible).

Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers
