Unable to set The Bat to be the default in Vista, Setting default doesn't work

I am just testing The Bat 4.0.14 Home edition on Vista Premium.  The program works niocely however even though setting The Bat to be the default for `Mail to' etc under Options my computer doesn't start either the Bat (or any other email program) when I click on email addreses in web pages. Nor does the Bat start up when I puch the email button on my multimedia keyboard. When I go in to Vista `Set your default programs' The Bat does not appear.  When I look under Associate a file etc with a program' I go to Mailto and it says it cannot recognize the program.
Uninstalling The Bat my old default program (Pocomail) now works again as default for e-mail links or when pressing the email key on my keyboard.

I have no idea why Vista doesn't recognize The BAt

That has been reported on the beta list and the developers are definitely working on it. I don't recall a workaround being posted (yet)

I am on XP so I could have missed it since it doesn't affect me. Perhaps someone else can post something here and help

I had this problem when i first installed v4.0.7 Professional.

I solved the problem and created the registry entries that correct the problem.  Now everything works fine.
The have to be manually merged to the registry.
The registry backup must be made before using them.


They work if the path to thebat.exe is
c:\program files\the bat!\thebat.exe

If the path is something else, the registry files must be edited first.

If you are interested, i will upload them. Just let me know.

edit: they work in both XP and Vista.

I am interested in the registry settings. I just opend a ticket about this issue, unfortunately before I found this thread...

I've been using The Bat for years now, and delighted with it. But I got the same problem when I upgraded to v4. I'm on Vista.

Yes, I'd love to have details of how to fix the registry
