Messages gone after maintenance process [cyring for help], The messages in the inbox folder gone due to unknown file integrity

Hi all,

I am using TheBat! 3.98.4, just another day in my life: checks the email, nothing new, and do the maintenance process before my plan to make a backup today.

All of the sudden I got this error (something like) "Message integrity is corrupted, do you want to do the recovery/maintenance process?" -- Well, logically I clicked on YES.

Afterwards, I get the message "0 messages recovered", and BAM! all the emails in the inbox folder are gone.

Panic! I checked all the rest of the accounts (I have like 20+ accounts being managed using TB), and they are all just fine; just the one mailbox (\\MS - Inbox) is downed to zero count e-mail.

I have take a look at these threads before, and tried them, but allas nothing worked to get my mails in the \\MS - Inbox folder back:

I have tried the TheBat Message Recovery (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/E-mail/Mail-Utilities/The-Bat-Message-Recovery.shtml) - still no go. :(

I have make a copy of a copy of a copy of part0001.bin and burned all the files in Application Data\etc..etc..\TheBat-PWD\ to 2 DVDs (exact copies) just in case s### happends (again)

I have also tried renaming the .bin to .tbb, and trying to run a recovery using zMeil 1.2 build 9: no go :(

I humbly ask you fellow TB user for any enlightment / assistance / help :)

many thanks in advance

*FYI: I'm running WinXP Pro SP2, full admin rights, TB 3.98.4
Many thanks in advance,
-Marcel-

FYI I am using the OTFE (on the fly encryption) --forgot to mention it in the first post

The recovery tools won't work as your message base is encrypted.
You could try to rename the bin files to something.ext and see whether SmartBat can make some sense from it.

Thanks for the reply.

Please be so kind to enlight me how to use SmartBat? I only got the Notepad-achtige (wait...wrong language: Notepad-ish) window and the other is a reminder/calendar.

Many thanks in advance,
-Marcel-

That's SmartBat
Rename the wanted file to something with .ext as extension.
Start SmartBat
Press Ctrl-N and browse to the location of your renamed file.
As the extension is .ext SmartBat should recognize the file as encrypted text and as it uses the same encryption protocol as TB it's possible that it can render it to something useful.

Thanks for the reply

I renamed the .bin to .ext
Opened SmartBat
Pressed Ctrl-N
Browsed the file
Waited some moments
And... uff...I got only gibberish characters.

Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance,
-Marcel-

You wouldn't happen to have some recent backup, would you?

I do actually, but it was already 4 weeks old (or even more). And within the 4 weeks more than 2000+ mails have been received (including spam :P).

I have considered restoring the backup and actually done that in another machine, but it was not helping by any means :( :(
Many thanks in advance,
-Marcel-

And I don't suppose the missing messages belong to a gmail account that won't delete it from server....

Njet

It's a plain POP3, has been changing 4 or 5 hosting houses in the past 2 years, and asking them to restore backups will be costing me HUGE amount of dough (some will do it for free, but still...)

Any other ideas?
Many thanks in advance,
-Marcel-

I guess I just have to let this thread open for any possible answer right now

If anybody (I hope the Ritlabs Team read this thread as well) know how I can restore things from the part0001.bin  from an OFTE'd account, PLEASE PLEASE I beg you please.... mail me -- marcellino (dot) santoso (at-thingie) gmail,and-the-obvious-dot-com (I have to type this way to prevent those nasty spam bot harvester)
Many thanks in advance,
-Marcel-
