How to configure hotmail

Hello using Bat can I configure Hotmail account without using any thirdpart utility which converst web mail to pop mail.

I follow (WORKED for me):

Windows Live Hotmail aka MSN Hotmail finally is adding POP3 and SMTP support for its free user base. Previously, POP3 and SMTP access is only available to paid Windows Live Hotmail Plus subscribers. POP3 and SMTP protocols allows user to use desktop-based or mobiled-based (such as iPhone
) email client to access Hotmail mailboxes without opening web browser to browse to web-based Hotmail online.

The free POP3 and SMTP access will be available to all, each and every Hotmail users eventually. However, during the initial rolling out stage, the POP3 and SMTP support on the Hotmail account will be enabled in stage by country and regional market. Windows Live blog announced that Hotmail users in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands are the first to enjoy the free POP3 and SMTP service as part of Hotmail wave 3 roll out. Good news is, all Hotmail users should have POP3 and SMTP enabled and turned on in their account by end of 2009.

To setup mail client to access Windows Live Hotmail account, use the following Hotmail POP3 and SMTP configuration settings:

Incoming Server (POP3 Server): pop3.live.com
Incoming Server POP Port: 995
Incoming Server POP SSL Encryption: Yes (On or Required)

Outgoing Server (SMTP Server): smtp.live.com
Outgoing Server SMTP Port: 25
Outgoing Server Authentication: Yes (On - Use POP username and password or Hotmail credentials)
Outgoing Server TLS or SSL Secure Encrypted Connection: Yes (On or Required)

User Name: Windows Live ID (e.g. yourname@hotmail.com)
Password: password used to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live service

Note: "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" check box in Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail should not be selected.

For user who can’t access Hotmail via POP3 yet, try Microsoft Office Outlook Connector instead.

After following your tutorial I still can't configure it to work properly with Hotmail. :o
Could anyone please provide a tutorial that is written for The Bat!, not a tutorial for general email clients.

I've asked the user support, and finally I got the answer as following.

Use the following settings:

Send Mail
SMTP Server: smtp.live.com
Connection: Secure to regular port (STARTTLS)
Port: 25
Authentification:  Perform SMTP Authentification (RFC 2554)

Receive Mail
Mail Server: pop3.live.com
Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
Port: 995
Authentification: Regular :D

I chose to leave messages on server but even if i download them to my pc, they are still marked as not read in webmail (hotmail). Is there a way that the bat mark them as read on web and leave them as unread on pc?

1) Show only UNREADED msgs

Code
On account list, select account name
Account\Properties\Mail management
   ENABLE 'Leave messages on server'
   ENABLE 'Invoke automatically at each mail check'
   DISABLE 'Show all messages left on server'
   OK
Account\Get New Mail (F2)
'Message Dispatcher' window that opens shows ALL (UNREADED & READED) msgs. ENABLE 'Read' & 'Receive' flags for msgs you want
F2 (1st time: runs flags. READED msgs'll be as READ on server & RECEIVED msgs'll be as UNREAD on PC)
F2 (2nd time: 'Message Dispatcher' shows only UNREADED msgs)



2) Show ALL (UNREADED & READED) msgs

As far as i got your message i have this problem now: I previously chose to leave msg on server. Now my live messenger says i have 13 unread messages, while all these msg were downloaded and read by the bat. Can i set them as read on server without opening browser?

I'm not sure due to I don't use webmail. But, as I can mark a msg as 'Read' flag by TB!, without download or delete it, I GUESS yes. At least it should because it's more rational.

You give me a doubt: (mark 'Read' flag by TB! or other e-client) = (mark 'Read' flag by browser)?

Seems not, because the message i downloaded are marked read in TB and are not in webbrowser(hotmail). If i open my hotmail they are still marked as unread. Unless there is an option to download from hotmail markin them read.

Masterflash, this seems a bug due to doesn't make sense & I don't see reason for. As I don't use webmail, unfortunately, I don't know how to solve it. :(

This seems a TB! bug, doesn't make sense, I don't see reason for, makes 'flag resources' useless. As I don't use webmail, unfortunately, I don't know how to solve it, maybe TB! team. :(

I don't think it's a bug in TB, TB imports the messages via the POP3 protocol and POP3 offers no options to mark messages as read.
There might be an option in your Hotmail account to mark messages as read after they've been downloaded via POP3, but as I haven't got a Hotmail account I can't help you with that.

This doesn't seem to work for me.

When I set authentication to MSN (not regular) the statusbar says TLS handshaking and handshaking OK, but there are no messages downloaded (I know there are messages on the server)

Anybody who knows howto fix this ?
