Saving attachments

Considering migrating from PocoMail,  where attachments are saved automatically in an attachment folder.   I am unable to locate attachments that arrive with TheBat mail.  Are they available anywhere?

They stay attached to the message by default although I believe you CAN change that behavior. (DON'T) :)

Just detach what you want to wherever you want and it will remember the last folder you used

Are you new to the bat? I am an ex-poco user. I liked poco but I kept running into things it wouldn't do - some of them very basic

Thanks,  Rick

I found that I can save them to a folder other than in The Bat.  (not  laughing)

I liked poco,  but found the same as you - some things were just not available  :(

Are you recommending not to change the default behaviour? If so, why?

I am saving all attachments to one special file making all these attachments available offline even if I am not using TB. Obviously if the attachments relate to a specific project or should be kept in a special folder, I would move them but that is not always the case. At present I am happy with my set-up but would like to know if there are any disadvantages I am not aware of.

There are both advantages and disadvantages with saving attachments in an attachments directory.

Here are some advantages:
Less space (attachments in the message base use 30 % more space)
They can be checked by virus scanners without a plugin for TB

Some disadvantages:
When you edit the file you don't have the original attachment any longer
On moving the file to a different directory the connection with the original message is lost

Some don't knows:
I don't know whether the attachments dierctory is included with TB's backup
I don't know what happens to the extracted file when the original message is deelted manually or automatically

Some things to consider:
When you're using On The Fly Encryption it isn't possible to store the attachments outside the message base.
