Restoring emails from a backup

I need to restore only one single email from a backup containing tens of thousands of emails, and I can't remember how exactly The Bat's restore system functions.

What happens if I choose Tools-Restore from the menu?

Will TB! ask me if I want to restore the backup to a new account or will TB! simply copy all messages from the backup file into my current account's mail folders? This would create lot of duplicate messages and I really would not want this to happen.

I think it will restore to the account/folders that were backed up, but ask you which folders to restore so you can skip some. Not sure though, as I don't use the built-in backup tool.

I would suggest to proceed as follows:
Close theBat and rar or zip the entire mail folder.
Then restore the backup, select to restore only messages.
Find the message you need and save it somewhere as .eml file
Delete the entire mail folder, then restore the initial copy from the rar/zip you created in the first step. Then import the saved message where you need.

It's much better to make backups by simply archiving the mail folder.

Tools -> Restore  will overwite your complete message base, it won´t merge with your existing message base, nor will it allow for individual messages to be restored.

Big one´s suggestion not to use TB´s internal backup anymore has some merits, like the option to restore individual folders (provided that you don´t use an encrypted message base, but he doesn't like that option either, so he's rather consequent in his preferences)
But it has some disadvantages too, as rar or zip won't restore TB's registry settings.

However, big one's recipe for restoring a single message is the only one I can think of too (albeit with minor varieties)

Thank you both for your advice. I'm glad I asked here first instead of restoring the backup into my current installation.
