Still miss Eudora, Can't figure out some vital features

Six months ago when I got a new Vista Laptop, Eudora crashed and burned to the point that it was unusable, prompting me to switch to an alternative - I decided on TB and bought a license.  It's working fine in that there are no major problems but having used Eudora for over 12 years, I still miss a few features which I for the life of me can't figure out how to get working on in The Bat:

1.  Personalities - In Eudora when sending an email I'd select a different email address of mine from the pull-down menu in the FROM header, and automatically a signature pertaining to THAT email address would show up at the bottom of the mail.  I've been told at this forum that one can use templates to do this but I cannot, just simply cannot get it to work.  I'm not a tech wizard but am certainly not a computer dummy.  Can anyone give me an idiot's step by step guide to pull this off such that I can pull down an "personality" (ie different email addy) in the FROM header and automatically a signature pertinent to that email shows up?

2.  Autofilling of addresses:  in the TO header in Eudora I'd basically type part of an email address and the whole thing would autofill.  Not happening in The Bat except for very recently used addresses.  I've selected "Display list of suggestions from History + all address books" in the Viewer/Editor preferences screen but no change.

3.  Losing Email - not a problem for me so far (touch wood) but am disturbed to read that there are some who've lost years worth of email - this never happened on Eudora (even when it crashed and burned on Vista, I still had access to all my email if I transfered the files on a different machine).  Can anyone provide some reassurance?

Thanks

1. In the reply/new message window there is a status bar at the bottom. One of the fields there shows the name of the current account, and if you click it you'll see a list of all available accounts and can select another - then reply template etc. changes.

2. This works for me.

3. Losing mail never happened to most folks that use theBat, and I guess you'll find similar complaints in Eudora forums.
Fortunately with theBat it's very easy to make a backup of everything, just zip or rar the entire mail folder. If something bad happens, you can easily restore everything or desired parts.

Here's an add on to what bigg one said.
The change of templates (including their signature) by changing the account will only happen when you alter it before you start typing text in the message body.
You can change the templates at the account properties, take note of the fact that a signature defined at the new message template won't be used for replies, because replies use their own reply templates.
If you're regularly adapting your signature, but want to use the same sig for all templates of an account, you can create a quick template, name it sig1 and next you're calling from your account templates with the macro %QT="sig1"
In case you've got contacts that always get their replies from the same account regardless of the address they're mailing to, you can set the address book templates for those contacts to use that account (with the %Account= macro). As address book templates take precedence over account templates, you'll need to define the proper sigs in those address book templates as well, another reason to define your sigs in quick templates, so you can call them from anywhere.

The autofill works for me as advertised, have you got all of your contacts in an open address book?

I've been using TB for over eight years and I've never lost any mail, even though I'm using alpha and beta versions regularly.
Two important guidelines to prevent dataloss are:
don't store lots of messages in high traffic folders (the inbox)
Compress all folders regularly (especially high traffic folders)

BTW What versio did you install?
