Email restore after trojan virus crash, Can not connect to host(s) for sending and receiving email

For the first time I had a serious problem with a file I had downloaded that contained some very aggressive trojans. My virus scanner took out several files and registry entries and I had to remove several auto startup entries as well.

After this, TheBat won't connect to my email 2 different email servers. The logfile just tells me that a connection with the server could not be made.
I cleaned the registry, restored a registry of some days ago, cleaned the windows temp files, restartet my computer, checked the email account settings, tried sending and receiving email.
And now I would not know where to look or to try what :o

Can somebody give me a hint in what to try now?

Thank!
Peter

(can not receive emails now :-)

first try to determine whether this is a system problem or a problem with theBat only.

Can you connect to mail servers with Outlook Express/Windows mail or another mail client?

Can you ping the servers ?

Disable your firewall, or delete & re-create the rules about theBat in it, and try again.

Enable protocol logging in theBat to see what exactly happens.

offtopic, the best way to handle such problems is to make images of the system partition from time to time. Then recovering the system to a previous working state takes some 10-20 minutes.

It's a TheBat only problem. I got my email in with Outlook without a problem and a ping to the server replies as expected.
I have closed my firewall completely and tried to get/send email with TB.
The logfile in TB only says 'could not connect to the server'
All configrules in the accounts are as they should be thoughh I also tried to reconfigure the <standard> folders but that also does not solve it. These trojans messed more things up as my autologin in my browser doesnt work anymore either.

I tried a 'repair' from the install but that did do the job, could a complete re-install after un-install of TB be the solution here?

I tried to uninstall and a re-install and the problem is solved. A shame that I will never know what the reason of the problem was, but I can live with that :D

Thanks
