Can't get rid of weird quick search box in middle of main window

I'm just about ready to become a Bat! user after 8 years with Eudora but I'm experiencing some problems.

All of a sudden there's a text box that's positioned totally on its own in the main window of the Bat! It's always there and remains no matter which folder I'm viewing but is temporarily covered up when opening an email.

I can enter text in it, and right clicking it brings up menu options associated with a quick search such as "find next" etc. However, if I click "hide" or press escape whilst in this box the Bat closes down with the error -

"Cannot focus a disabled or invisible window"

I cannot remove this text box, there's nothing round it, it's just a normal text box about 7 emails down the inbox list of emails.

Under the VIEW menu, see if you have a check mark next to  MEMO auto view (shift+control+I)

If so get rid of that and see if that gets rid of the problem.

Thanks Rick but no. Doing that opens a small window with a grey tool bar and a couple of icons. The text box I have is just over one inch long and about 10mm deep. It's just the box on its own with grey borders.

I think it's related somehow to quick search. If I select "view/quicksearch" I get a small blank toolbox with no icons or content on it. It's as though this tool bar is corrupted somehow.

NB: I just uninstalled and reinstalled choosing to keep my data and the fault is still there.

Try dragging it and docking it to the menu and/or right clicking the menu and unclicking quick search and see if that helps

Close TB
Search in your maoil directory for a file called:
tbuder.def (tbuser.eef when you're using an encrypted message base) and delete that file.
Start TB again.

If this doesn't help:
Close TB
Start Regedit
Delete the tree: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT
Close Regedit
Start TB
TB will act like it's the the first time you're using it, so you've got to point it to your message base.

One of these two should solve your problem.

Thanks Rick and Roelof. I deleted the tbuser.def file and that cured it.
